摘要： Apparatus and method for degassing liquids particularly cationic monomers. Fluid comprising liquid to be degassed together with sweep gas is admitted tangentially into a column (10) and forced down the column by a tubular baffle (16) which defines, with the inner wall of the column, an annulus (18) that is closed at its top (20). After passing to the bottom of the annulus the fluid forms an even film over the inner surface of the column and gas disengaging from the liquid can rise up the column while liquid accumulates at the bottom of the column. To assist the disengagement of the gas from the liquid the column is preferably of increasing cross section towards the bottom so that the thickness of the film is also reduced.

摘要： A method for reducing/preventing the formation of scale or removal of scale in a municipal or industrial waste water treatment facility comprising introducing an antiscalent composition which comprises: A) A water soluble polymer of molecular weight below 20,000 and containing anionic groups, and B) A sequesterant compound containing at least one phosphonate group and salts thereof, characterised in that component (A) is formed from a monomer or monomer blend consisting of one or more ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer(s) and optionally not more that 50 % by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated water-soluble nonionic monomer. Preferred antiscalent compositions include a blend of A) a polymer of acrylic acid and/or maleic acid and B) diethylentriamine penta (methylenephosphonic acid) or salts thereof. Also claimed is the use of the above composition for the treatment of struvite scale.

摘要： An emulsion comprising an organic discontinous phase which is distributed through a continuous aqueous phase, wherein the organic phase comprises a light sensitive active ingredient, and the emulsion is stabilised by a water soluble stabilising material in the aqueous phase, wherein the water-soluble stabilising material is a water-soluble stabilising polymer which has a plurality of hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups and is selected from partially hydrolysed polyvinyl acetate and addition copolymers formed from (i) at least one ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid esters and (ii) at least one ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride, and wherein the organic phase further comprises, a) an organic solvent which is a liquid at 25 °C and/or b) an organic phase stabilising material comprises hydrophobic moieties and is a material which is more soluble in the organic phase than the aqueous phase. The composition is useful for protecting light sensitive active ingredients which would otherwise in neat form decompose on exposure to light, preferably sunlight. The invention is of particular value when the light sensitive active ingredient is a pesticide, herbicide or a veterinary treatment active. Preferably the light sensitive active ingredient is a light sensitive pyrethroids. The invention also contemplates a domestic pest control formulation comprising light sensitive pesticides.

摘要： A process of preparing water soluble or water swellable polymer comprising the steps, (a) forming an aqueous mixture comprising, (i) a water soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer or blend of monomers and, (ii) an ultra violet initiator, (b) effecting polymerisation by subjecting the aqueous mixture formed in step (a) to polymerisation conditions to form a polymer of said monomer or monomer blend, (c) subjecting the polymer formed in step (b) to ultra violet light radiation, characterised in that the polymerisation step (b) is conducted substantially in the absence of ultra violet radiation. In one preferred aspect the ultra violet initiator is distributed throughout the polymer formed in step (b). In another preferred aspect the step (c) is conducted ultra violet light at an intensity of up to 500 milli Watts/cm2. Also claimed is a method of reducing the residual monomer content in a water soluble or water swellable polymer by subjecting the polymer to ultra violet irradiation in the presence of an ultra violet initiator. The process is particularly suitable for making highly effective water soluble and water swellable polymers useful as flocculants, coagulants, rheology modifiers, dispersants, superabsorbents and binders etc.

摘要： Paper is made by a dual soluble polymer process in which a cellulosic suspension which usually contains alum or cationic coagulant is first flocculated with a high IV cationic synthetic polymer or cationic starch and, after shearing, the suspension is reflocculated by the addition of a branched anionic water soluble polymer having IV above 3dl/g and tan delta at 0.005 Hz of at least 0.5. The process gives an improved combination of formation, retention and drainage.
