摘要： Apparatus for clamping together contact lens molds having a polymerizable liquid monomer disposed therebetween includes a plurality of clamping assemblies (10) each having a linearly translatable shaft member (16) mounted to a contact lens curing table (200). A common mold clamp release assembly (100) is provided through which each mold clamping assembly (10) passes, thereby ensuring that each mold set (12) is subjected to the same clamping and release profile. Additionally, the amount of clamping force of each clamping assembly (10) may be individually adjusted by way of an adjustable nut (30) mounted to the shaft member (16) which, thereby, controls the amount of force delivered by the shaft member (16) to the contact lens molds (12) being clamped.

摘要： A guide block assembly (10) and associated method are provided for retaining a plurality of fiber bore forming pins (30) and at least one guide bore forming pin (33) in precise relation to each other during moulding of a multi-fiber ferrule used in a multi-fiber connector. The assembly comprises an array of fiber bore blocks (22 a-h) each with a fiber bore (32 a-h) therethrough to retain a respective one of the fiber bore forming pins. At least one guide bore block (24a,24b) that defines a guide bore for retaining a guide bore forming pin (33) is assembled with the array of fiber bore blocks. Adjoining surfaces (40) are defined between adjacent fiber bore blocks (22 a-h) and between the guide bore blocks (24a,24b) and the array of fiber bore blocks. The use of bores more precisely retains the pins during the moulding process, and the use of blocks with adjoining surfaces allows for the machining of such surfaces to precisely establish the relationships between successive fiber bore blocks and between the array of fiber bore blocks and the guide bore blocks.

摘要： An automated demolding apparatus for reliably and repeatedly mechanically separating contact lens mold portions of a mold assembly without damaging the contact lens formed therebetween. The mold assembly includes a first front mold portion having a central mold section with a surrounding flange, and a corresponding second back mold portion also having a central mold section with a surrounding flange. A molded contact lens is formed between the front and back mold portions, and the flanges of the front and back mold portions are spaced apart and parallel to each other. The demolding apparatus includes restraining fingers positioned between and on opposite sides of the spaced flanges of the first and second mold portions and against the flange of the first mold portion. A separating fixture includes separating fingers positioned between and on opposite sides of the spaced flanges of the first and second mold portions and against the flange of the second mold portion. Before demolding, the second mold portion is irradiated by a laser beam, which is absorbed thereby to cause a substantial temperature gradient between the second mold portion and the contact lens being demolded. The temperature gradient causes a differential expansion and shifting of the surface of the heated second mold portion relative to the surface of the lens to lessen the adhesion therebetween to assist in separation of the mold portions, while leaving the lens in the first mold portion. During demolding, the separating fixture is rotated relative to the restraining fingers to progressively separate and peel the second mold portion from the first mold portion.
