    • The process as per the invention provides that a digitized real speech signal is converted using complex, preferably Hilbert filtering, into a complex signal that is subjected to a sampling reduction, with the bandwidth of the complex filter matching the sampling rate. The complex signal thus produces is phase-modulated using a code signal generated by a ramdom number generator and is additively combined with a likewise stochastically phase-modulated pilot signal to form a transmissible, scrambled useful signal. The useful signal is transmitted sequentially with a preamble that is used for receiver-side synchronization and equalizing of the useful signal. On the receiver side, again following complex filtering and corresponding sampling reduction during a preamble recognition phase, the digitized received signal is made to yield a clock synchronization for a receiver-side generated, phase-modulated pilot signal, and equalizing coefficients are calculated for a receiver-side equalizer (51), whereupon the phase of the useful signal unscrambling phase is initialized. The scrambled, transmitted useful signal is separated from its transmission-side overlay phase-modulated pilot signal by combining with the synchronized, receiver-side generated pilot signal, and then the resulting phase-modulated, scrambled digital speech signal is unscrambled by unmixing using the code signal generated on the receiver-side and clock-controlled by the preamble.
