    • A method and device for measuring taste component values such as the sugar content and acidity of fruit which is agricultural produce and examining in a nondestructive way the internal qualities such as internal disease and physiological disorder which cannot be detected from the appearance. An object is transferred by transferring means having a transmission light path extending vertically at its central part and a receiving seat to come to annularly contact with the object. An examination position is set at a predetermined position of the transfer passage. A light-shielding tube provided above the object and capable of falling vertically to cover the object is moved synchronously. The object is illuminated with light from both left and right sides by means of small lamps. Above the examination position, upper focusing means oriented downward and adapted to focus the transmitted light through the light-shielding means and upper spectroscopy means connected to the upper focusing means through an optical fiber are provided. Below the transmission light exit hole of the receiving seat, lower focusing means oriented upward and lower spectroscopy means connected to the lower focusing means through an optical fiber are provided. An analyzer for spectroscopically analyzing spectrum data SA acquired from the upper spectroscopy means and spectrum data SB acquired from the lower spectroscopy means, calculating the taste component values such as the sugar content and acidity from the upper and lower spectra, various detecting physiological disorder and disease disorder, and outputting the degrees of the disorders is provided.

    • An object (F) of inside quality inspection being conveyed on a conveyer is irradiated sideways with beams of light from projection lamps (21) concentratedly. Photodetecting means (3) detects light transmitted through the object (F) irrespective of the size and thickness of the skin of the object (F) without being influenced by extraneous light. A white-level calibrating device (35) is provided to the photodetecting means (3). The projection lamps (21) project and concentrate their beams of light onto one side of the object (F) in an inspection position (11) at different angles from different positions diagonally distributed from the oblique front to the oblique back. Fractions of light transmitted through the object (F) and emerging from the other side of the object (F) are condensed by a condenser lens (31). A shutter (33) for opening/closing the optical path is provided between a light-receiving window (313) of the condenser lens (31) and a light-inputting face (321) of an optical fiber for directing light to a spectrometer. The shutter (33) is operated when the inspection center of the object (F) passes the inspection position (11). A white-level calibrating plate (351) is moved to a position in front of the light-receiving window (313) and moved back so as to perform calibration. The deviation of the calibration curve is corrected by placing a quality reference material (361) in the same position and moving it back.
