    • An assembled vehicle brake disk has a basically rotationally symmetrical friction ring which is fastened by way of several linking points in a rigid or floating manner to a basically rotationally symmetrical hub part. At least two distances between respectively adjacent linking points, which distances follow one another in the circumferential direction, differ from one another, in which case, viewed in their entirety, the linking points are arranged in a non-uniformly distributed manner along the circumference. Preferably, an uneven number of linking points are provided which may be arranged to be very asymmetrically distributed along the circumference. The number of linking points may be in the order of between 5 and 15, a smaller number being provided per circumferential segment with respect to lower-frequency noise radiations, and a higher number being provided with respect to higher-frequency noise radiations.

    • An adapter plate for a caliper disc brake assembly is attached to the inboard side of the axle flange of a vehicle axle housing. The adapter plate is generally C-shaped to allow mounting around the central region of the axle housing. The inboard positioning of the adapter plate allows mounting of larger brake calipers within a confined space. The caliper is connected to the axle housing by the adapter plate for the purpose of positioning the caliper relative to the rotor and resisting the torque developed by the action of the brake pads on the rotor. In order to adjust the lateral position of the caliper, the adapter plate, in one embodiment, has a pilot surface which allows the axle flange to be recessed within the adapter plate. In another embodiment, a secondary adapter plate bridges over the opening in the adapter plate to allow mounting of the adapter assembly to the entire bolt circle of the axle flange.

    • A brake squeal attenuator for use with aircraft wheel brake assemblies. The attenuator includes a housing having a piston member and a weight disposed therein. The piston member and weight are biased by a spring disposed within the housing. The housing includes a neck portion which is in fluid communication with the hydraulic actuators of the brake assembly with which the attenuator is being used. The piston thus is biased on one side thereof by the biasing member and on an opposite side thereof by the hydraulic fluid pressure acting thereon. During braking, when torsional oscillations occur in the brake assembly which would otherwise cause objectionable brake squeal to occur, the entire housing of the attenuator, which is fixed to the housing of the wheel brake assembly, moves in accordance with the torsional oscillations which occur. The weight associated with the piston member causes movement of the piston member to lag behind movement of the attenuator housing as the attenuator begins oscillating. The attenuator thus produces a pumping of hydraulic fluid to and from the hydraulic actuators of the brake assembly which are timed to damp the torsional oscillating movement of the wheel assembly. The attenuator can be easily retrofitted to virtually all aircraft wheel brake systems without significantly adding to the cost or complexity of such systems.
