    • A shedding device and a method for joining the ends of a fabric into an endless belt of fabric, or, alternatively, joining the ends of separate pieces of fabric into a single piece of fabric. The shedding device employs a plurality of heddles supported at only one end, allowing the heddles to be individually moved or adjusted. The heddles are connected to the top ends of piston rods of a plurality of pneumatic cylinders. The heddles move up and down to shift threads passing through the heddles, so as to form a shed. The shedding method employs an interweaving piece of fabric, with a portion of the interweaving piece having only weft threads. The weft thread of the interweaving piece interwoven with the warp threads of the ends of the fabric to be joined. Alternatively, the weft threads of the interweaving piece can be interwoven with the weft threads of the ends of the fabric to be joined.

    • A shedding apparatus for being fitted onto a fabric-forming machine such as a loom for controlling the up and down movement of warp-carrying heddles to form a filling insertion zone. The shedding apparatus includes a computer for storing pattern information relating to a pre-determined pattern to be translated into a woven pattern on the fabric-forming machine. A plurality of pneumatic piston and cylinder assemblies are attached to respective heddles for pneumatically moving the heddle attached thereto into and out of shed-forming position. Pressurized air is delivered to predetermined piston and cylinder assemblies to thereby move the selected piston and cylinder assemblies and their respective heddles into upper and lower shed-forming positions to receive a filling yarn to thereby create a portion of the pattern.

    • A reading and lifting device has a force amplifying bar which can be reciprocated vertically and is driven positively, and a reading needle is slidably supported therein. A pattern card with nonperforated and perforated points is provided below the force amplifying bar. When the needle hits a nonperforated point, the needle is moved back into the force amplifying bar. In one embodiment, the needle slides with its head on a surface which effects a swivelling of a lock member. Through this, an end of the lock member comes to lie in front of an offset portion of a control arm. The force amplifying bar during its downward movement then carries the control arm along against the force of a spring. The device facilitates the sensitive reading of a pattern card and the forceful passing on of the control information read.
