摘要： There is disclosed herein a window assembly comprising: a glazing unit including an inner pane arranged on an inner side of the glazing unit and an outer pane arranged on an outer side of the glazing unit; a frame for surrounding an opening in a wall or roof of a building for supporting the glazing unit; and a thermal shield locatable between the frame and the opening, wherein the thermal shield comprises a structural element configured to extend laterally into the opening from the frame and a sealing member to create a seal around the opening between the structural element and the inner pane of the glazing unit, wherein an inner lip of the structural element is arranged to extend laterally into the opening beyond the sealing member to define an air pocket between the inner lip and the inner pane of the glazing unit, and wherein, when the window assembly is installed in a building, the thermal shield thereby defines a thermal conduction path along the inner pane of the glazing unit, from the laterally inner edge of the air pocket to the laterally inner edge of the frame, that is the path of least thermal resistance between the opening and an exterior of the building. Further window assemblies, related thermal shields and methods of designing, manufacturing and installing the window assemblies are disclosed.

摘要： A window assembly includes a glazing unit with inner 112 and outer panes and a frame 152 surrounding an opening in a wall or roof. A thermal shield is locatable between the frame and the opening. The shield includes a structural element 122 on which is a seal 124. A lip 126 extends into the opening past the seal 124 and a static air pocket is defined between the lip and inner pane. The thermal shield defines a conduction path along the inner pane to the inner edge of the frame. Also claimed is a thermal shield for use in a window assembly which extends laterally into an opening from a frame. The shield include an inside lateral leg 1242, and outward leg 125 going towards the panes and an outside lateral leg 126 that is inclined inwarldly. Also claimed is a computer design method of designing a thermal shield where thermal transmittance is calculated.
