    • PURPOSE: To clean a tool or a tool holder immediately before it is inserted into a machine spindle by arranging the inlet and outlet of a cleaning chamber provided on a clamp device and having a conical inside contour on one of the walls of the housing of the cleaning chamber. CONSTITUTION: A cleaning chamber 1 has a conical shape matched to the shape of the shank part 3 of a tool holder 4, and an internal thread 7 is machined on the wall 6 of a housing 2. The support face of the shank part 3 is kept in contact with the wall 6 of the cleaning chamber 1, the grooves of the internal thread 7 forms a single passage between an inlet orifice 8 and an outlet orifice 9, the inlet orifice 8 is arranged at the root of the shank part 3, and the outlet orifice 9 is arranged at the free end of the shank part 3. A cleaning liquid is introduced into a circular path 28 through the inlet orifice 8 and flows in the grooves of the internal thread 7 to clean the surface of the shank part 3, and it flows out of the outlet orifice 9, then compressed air is fed to dry the shank part 3, for example.

    • PURPOSE: To reduce operating time to change tools by driving a tool carrier, making the tool carrier rotatable about a horizontal axis intersecting the center of a shell to be a part of a spherical body and arranging an advance unit at the inside of the shell. CONSTITUTION: The moving of a revolving arm 15 around an axis A and the moving of a tool carrier 8 around a horizontal direction axis B are simultaneously performed by required angles and a desired tool can be arranged in front of an advance unit 25 in very short time. The advance unit 25 clamps a tool 10 from the rear side of the tool 10, releases a tool lock device and linearly moves the tool 10 to a transfer location. Continuously, the tool 10 is clamped by a gripper 28 of a tool changer 14 and the tool 10 is directly inserted into a working spindle. All the components required for advancing and changing the tool 10 in the spindle are mounted on a fixed stand 5 and the components are adjusted each other.

    • PURPOSE: To dispense with extra after machining for improving surface accuracy by setting the shank of a tool being rotated transversely to the feed direction and designing the end face of the tool to adapt to the surface inclinations of the tool having an inclination to the surface of a workpiece at right angles to the feed direction. CONSTITUTION: A workpiece having a concave section is subjected to end milling that acquires a linear contact portion 5, in which the end face 10 of a tool 1 is somewhat conically machined for obtaining such a linear contact portion 5 and the tool 1 has an inclination or cone angle α to the side of the workpiece. Though the cutter shank is held substantially perpendicularly to a feed direction 7 and the linear contact portion 5 is limited only in the range corresponding to half the cutter diameter D, such linear contact may be obtained over the cutter diameter D so that a workpiece is machined to have a concave of a radius of curvature of ρ. The minimal possible radius of curvature of a concave-machined surface is obtained, for a cylindrical workpiece, from the axial projection drawing of the workpiece in the end face figuration and is defined by ρmin =D/(2.sin α). This machining offers improved surface accuracy of the workpiece.

    • PURPOSE: To increase the number of tools capable of being handled in a short time or for a correct positioning for replacement by providing a moving device for moving each of or a plurality of those tools installed collectively almost without a clearance around the periphery of a rotor installation part to an area longer than a tool length. CONSTITUTION: An installation part is formed so that tools 5 are installed around the periphery of the installation part of a rotor 11 by collecting the tools 5 almost without a clearance to a degree that a tool detaching exchanger is not accessible directly to the tools. Also provided is a moving unit 23 for moving each of or a plurality of the tools stored in the rotor 11 in radial direction over a range longer than the length of the tools 5. With such a structure, the tools 5 can be transported to specified positions, or held by the exchanger. Thus the number of tools 5 capable of being handled in a sufficiently short time and or for accurate positioning can be increased, and these tools 5 can be replaced by the exchanger.
