    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction apparatus which is constituted to allow a connector to perform connection to a liquid source for supplying to a suction hole, and which includes a closure part for closing a second port when the second port is not in use.
      SOLUTION: A tracheal tube has a sealing cuff towards its patient end and a suction aperture just above the cuff. The suction aperture connects via a lumen with a suction line 9 terminated by a connector 10. One end of the connector 10 is tapered and has a port 20 for connection to a suction source. The connector 10 also has a side port 17 in which the nose of a syringe can be inserted to inject a lavage fluid out of the suction aperture to help loosen secretions. When not in use, the side port 17 is closed by a valve or by a closure cap 21 with formations 24 and 25 for sealing the two ports 20 and 17.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expander for tracheoplasty having a little possibility of hurting the trachea of a patient in the tracheoplasty. SOLUTION: An assembly for the percutaneous tracheoplasty is provided with an expander 2 attached on a needle 1. The needle is a hollow metal shaft and has an acute tip 10 in one end and a hub 11 in the opposite-side end. The expander 2 is made of plastic and has a narrow and flexible patient-side end part 20, a tapered intermediate part 21, and a substantially hard and wide-width rear part 22. The tip 10 of the needle 1 projects from the patient-side end part 20 of the expander 2, when the hub 11 is made to abut on the rear end of the expander, so that the patient-side end part of the assembly can be pushed inside the trachea 32. The length of the patient-side end part 20 of the expander 2 has such an extent of length that the tip 10 of the needle 1 is separated from the rear wall 33 of the trachea 32, when the tapered part 21 of the expander abuts on the surface of the skin 31. After the insertion, the needle 1 is replaced for a guide wire 40, so that the expander 2 is further pushed in for enlarging the opening part. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
