    • A curved belt conveyor includes at least two zones, each of which may be defined by a motorized roller and at least one idler roller which are positioned along and between opposite sidewalls of the conveyor, and a continuous belt reeved around the rollers. The conveyor includes a tracking means for tracking the belt on the rollers. The tracking means is substantially contained between the sidewalls of the conveyor and laterally inward of the outer and inner ends of the rollers. The tracking means may comprise a tracking roller positioned along a lower surface of one of the rollers and may engage the lower run of the belt with an upper surface of the tracking roller to maintain the belt in a proper position around the rollers.

    • A method and apparatus for sorting objects includes providing a sorter (10) having a conveying surface (11), a plurality of pusher shoes (26) capable of traveling laterally of the conveying surface (11), a plurality of diverting rails (18) extending diagonally under the conveying surface (11), and a plurality of diverters (22) associated with the diverting rails (18). The pusher shoes (26) include an article-contacting member (27) extending at least partially above the conveying surface (11) to laterally displace articles on the conveying surface (11) and a transfer assembly having a magnetic member (24) below the conveying surface (11). The transfer assembly (28) engages one of the diverting rails (18) to laterally displace the corresponding one of the pusher shoes (26). Actuators (41) are provided at the diverters (22). The actuators (41) are selectively energized to attract at least one of the magnetic members (24) towards the associated one of the diverting rails (18). Residual magnetic attraction between the actuators (41) and the magnetic members (24) is reduced when the actuators (41) are not being energized.

    • A motorized roller (18) for a conveyor includes a non-rotatable portion (18b) and a roller portion (18a) that is rotatably driven relative to the non-rotatable portion via an internal motor. The non-rotatable portion includes hubs or ends (26, 28) that are mounted to the opposed surfaces of opposite sidewalls (14a, 14b) or mounting portions of a conveyor, such that the motorized roller is positioned entirely between the mounting portions. The motorized roller may be secured to the mounting portions via at least one fastener (30) extending through the mounting portions and at least partially into the respective hub of the non-rotatable portion of the motorized roller. The motorized roller may include an electrical connector (32) integral with one of the hubs for electrically connecting the motorized roller to a corresponding connector of the conveyor. The motorized roller thus may be generally flush-mounted between the mounting portions of the conveyor.

    • An adjustable length conveyor bed (10) includes conveyor sections (12a-12e) that are movably positioned relative to one another and that include at least one belt support or roller (16) at an upper portion of the respective sidewalls (12). The sections (12a-12e) are movable relative to one another and securable at a desired degree of extension by securing the other section relative to the fixed roller support (21).
