摘要： 149,884. Henderson, R. I. Dec. 30, 1919. Obstruction-removers.-The transverse buffing-bar 10 is supported in clips 9 at the ends of two rods 8 fitted with pistons 16 and slidable within cylinders 4 containing air or like gaseous cushioning-fluid and attached to the side bars 2 of the vehicle frame. The piston 16 abuts against a shoulder 12 on the rod 8, and the reduced portion 8 is arranged to enter a reduced portion 5 of the cylinder, in which is arranged a spring 15 for returning the rods 8 and bar 10 to their normal position. A small quantity of oil is also contained in the cylinders 4. When the piston 16 is forced inwardly by an obstruction being encountered, the shock is absorbed by the air within the cylinders; at the same time, the oil is forced out of the smaller portion 5 of the cylinder and cushions the piston at the end of its stroke. When the piston is restored to its normal position, the oil is sucked back into the portion 5 of the cylinder.

Casting - machines; metal-pouring; moulds. -Ingots are cast into exhausted moulds provided with vents for the reception of gases liberated during the casting and with means for consolidating the cast ingots. The pouring block 14 is sealed by a ball-ended stopper 16 during exhaustion through ports 8. Molten metal is introduced into the pouring block, valves 11 are closed, and the stopper is raised. Any gases liberated are received by the chambers 17. The central mould connects with side moulds by runners 4 and a side 20 of the mould is movable to permit of compression after charging.
