Screwing dies and die-heads.-In a die-head for producing pointed cylindrical screws according to the method claimed in the parent Specification the dies are given an arcuate movement by means of a pin and slot connection. In one form the dies 6. Fig. 2, or their holders are guided by pins 7 or rests 8. and are moved during screwing by eccentrics 9 operated by levers 9 . In a modified form the dies are guided by pins 7 or rests 8, and their outer ends are pivotally mounted on crank pins which are swung during screwing by levers. In another form the dies 6 , Fig. 3, are oscillated by links 10 and levers 10 and are guided by cam tracks 11 or by similar arcuate tracks.. In a further form two or more opposed dies 6 , Fig. 5, are guided by pins and slots 15, and are move by levers &c. (not shown) along camshaped guides 14. In a still further form the dies 17. Fig. 10, are mounted in holders 16 having cylindrical projections 18 carried in eccentric bushes 19 on a frame or support 20. The parts 18, 19 are provided with levers 21, 28 respectively, which are oscillated by links 22, 24 and cam tracks, cones, eccentrics, screws or other means or by directly acting racks &c., the arrangement being such that the axes of the parts 18 and the cutting edges of the dies are on opposite sides of the blanks. When a pair of opposed dies are used. these may overlap at the point of the blank. The dies may be provided with a number of cutting edges, relatively superposed and displaced according to the pitch of the thread being cut, and the axes of rotation of the dies may be on or near the axis of the blank to enable two or more dies to be guided by a common rest.
