摘要： A cathodic protection system for a metal substrate has an anode which is normally electrically insulated from the substrate but which is disposed very close to the substrate. Cathodic protection only becomes effective when the electrical insulation breaks down and the metal substrate would otherwise be subject to corrosion. The system comprises an electrically insulating coating on the metal substrate and an electrically conducting coating applied over the insulating coating, a D.C. voltage being applied between the metal substrate and the conductive coating. The conductive coating or the insulating coating or both may be paint, the conductive layer being rendered conductive by the incorporation of an electrically conductive material such as elemental carbon.

摘要： A paint consists of 2 parts of chlorinated rubber dissolved in 2 to 4 parts of xylene together with 1 part of chlorinated diphenyl optionally with some tricresyl phosphate, and enough dibutyl tin maleate or dibutyl tin laurate to give 0.1 per cent. based on the weight of chlorinated rubber. Titania may also be added.ALSO:A composition comprises chlorinated rubber and an alkyl tin oxy compound which is capable of sequestering hydrogen chloride. The compound which may be a dialkyl tin salt of an organic acid, the alkyl group preferable being butyl, and the acid lauric or maleic acid, or a dialkyl tin dialkoxide such as dibutyl tin dibutoxide may be used in a proportion of 0.01 to 0.1 per cent. by weight as a stabilizer. In an example, a paint is produced by dissolving chlorinated rubber and chlorinated diphenyl, with or without tricresyl phosphate and then adding 0.1 per cent. by weight of dibutyl tin maleate or dibutyl tin laurate optionally with the addition of titania.

[Class 95] Ships bottoms are protected against fouling by the application thereto of a paint comprising a resinous film-forming constituent, a solvent therefor, a pigment, and a water-insoluble derivative of di-thiocarbomic acid or of thiuram, in which the essential structure is represented by =N-C(=S)-S-. Specified derivatives are tetramethyl thiuram disulphide, tetramethyl thiuram monosulphide, tetraethyl thiuram disulphide, tetraethyl thiuram monosulphide, zinc dimethyl dithiocarbamate, dimethyl-diphenylthiuram disulphide, zinc dithiocarbamate, zinc dimethyl dithiocarbamate, copper dimethyl dithiocarbamate and mercuric dimethyl dithiocarbamate. According to examples, anti-fouling paints comprise:-(1) Coal tar pitch, resin, leaded linseed stand oil, red iron oxide and tetramethyl thiuram disulphide ; (2) as in (1) with the addition of whiting ; (3) as in (1) with the addition of china clay.
