    • In the method, at least one nap fabric strip is woven in a shuttle-less strip loom from weft and warp threads. A first shed is formed from a first layer of warp threads and from a second layer of warp threads. A second shed is formed from the second layer of warp threads and from a third layer of warp threads. A weft thread is introduced into the first shed. A free end portion of an elongate resiliently or elastically deformable element is introduced into the second shed. The elongate element is displaced towards the edge of the fabric strip such that an intermediate portion of the elongate resiliently or elastically deformable element external of the second shed is deformed with portions of the third warp threads wrapped around the elongate resiliently or elastically deformed element to form the nap loops. The elongate element is secured in the deformed position at least until the beating up of the next weft thread and then the elongate element is withdrawn from the second shed whereby, in consequence of its resilient deformability, the elongate element returns to its initial undeformed shape. Apparatus for carrying out the method is also disclosed.

    • Weft thread storage means for a shuttleless web weaving machine includes weft thread supply means for each weft thread and at least one weft thread storage device. Each storage device comprises at least one pivotably mounted storage lever and control means to control each storage device in timed co-ordination with the operation of weft thread feed means of the machine. The control means comprises rotatable cam means respectively associated with each storage device to pivotably displace, before the start of each weft feed, the storage levers of the respective storage device from a first position to a second position, thereby to withdraw a predetermined length of each weft thread from its respective supply means. The storage levers are latched in their respective second positions to store the predetermined lengths of weft thread. Each weft thread is clamped before withdrawal from the supply means and the clamping means in each storage device is released, together with the lever latching mechanism, by releasing means co-ordinated with the operation of the weft feed means of the machine. On being released, each weft thread is fed from the storage device at substantially constant thread tension by the weft feed means.

    • Two nap fabric strips for strip closure devices are woven simultaneously in a shuttle-less loom from respective weft and first warp threads. Second warp threads are fed through the shed-forming device of the loom and woven into the strips alternately so that portions of the second warp threads interconnect the strips. The interconnecting portions of the second warp threads are cut to disconnect the strips and to provide each strip with a plurality of knubs each having a deformed end portion. The second warp threads are fed through a storage mechanism, which is disposed upstream of the shed-forming device and which is so controlled that -- while the second warp threads are being woven into the respective strips -- the second warp threads are fed through the shed-forming device at a slower rate than that at which they are fed during the formation of the second warp thread portions interconnecting the two strips. Preferably, nap loops are formed on at least one of the strips by introducing a free end portion of an elongate flexible rod member into a shed defined between components of the first warp threads of the one strip and the second warp threads. The flexible rod member is displaced towards the woven edge of the one fabric strip so that an intermediate portion of the rod member is flexed with portions of the second warp threads wrapped around the free end portion of the rod member. The rod member is secured in its flexed position at least until the beating up of the next weft thread and is subsequently completely withdrawn from the shed.
