      SOLUTION: A first magnetic recording layer 12 having first compensation temperature, an auxiliary magnetic layer 11 controlling a magnetization state of a record mark formed in the first magnetic layer 12 by exchange-coupling, a second magnetic recording layer 13 having second compensation temperature being different from the first compensation temperature, and a reproducing layer 14 on which record marks formed in the first magnetic recording layer 12 and the second magnetic recording layer 13 are formed by magnetic transfer, are layered on a substrate, and the direction of magnetic polarization of the auxiliary magnetic layer 11 is inverse to the direction of magnetic polarization of the first magnetic recording layer 12.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a sol, which can give a thin film excellent in water repellency and having higher hardness, and a method for the water repellent treatment of a base material, by which the sol can be cured under mild conditions and which comprises forming a cured thin film of the sol on a base material. SOLUTION: The process for producing the sol comprises: mixing a salt solution or alkoxide solution of at least one element selected from groups 3 to 6 elements with at least one compound selected from the group consisting of aqueous ammonia, amines and quaternary ammonium compounds to give the hydroxide(s) of the element(s); and mixing the hydroxide(s) with water and/or an alcohol and nitric acid and/or an organic acid. The method for the water repellent treatment of the base material comprises applying the sol produced by the above process on the surface of the base material and curing it, alternatively comprises curing the sol produced by the above process and forming a thin film of the obtained cured material on the surface of the base material.
