    • 122,692. Newbold, H. Jan. 29. 1918. Razors, safety. A safety razor of the class described in Specification 17277/13, in which the blade is made to reciprocate by reason of the resistance offered to it during shaving, has a spring clamp h, Fig. 4, with claw ends h engaging slots i, Fis. 2, in a guard c and gripping the blade a, the blade having a thickened rear edge movable in a turned-over part of the guard. A stem d secured to the guard extends to the rear end of a tubular handle l, where is secured to it one end of a long spring c, to which the handle is attached by rivets. To the forward end of the spring are pivoted links f, g respectively pivoted to a pin f on the guard and a pin g on the clamp h, these pins engaging in a guide-slot j in the clamp and in a guide-slot k in the guard. When the spring c yields in the act of shaving, the links f, g move the blade relatively to the guard, and the spring moves the blade back again when the pressure is removed. In a modification, a double-edged blade a, Fig. 7, is held on a guard c between clamping-plates m, n, the plate m having three pins which pass through holes in the blade and plate n and through elongated slots in the guard, and the central pin p being grooved to be engaged by a snap fastening s on the stem d, to hold the parts together. The stem d is, in this case, secured to the plate n, and the spring c carrying the handle l acts, through pivoted links, to reciprocate the blade with reference to the guard in much the same manner as in the construction first described.

    • 10,457. Newbold, H. May 3. Eyeglasses. - Relates to mounts for rimless eyeglasses, of the kind having an adjustable lens clamp to take lenses of different thicknesses. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 6, adapted for use with eyeglasses of the finger-grip type, the lens-mount is made in two parts e, f, which are bent round at right-angles at their ends, the part e being formed with a slot through which the part f passes. The bridge b is attached to the part f and the portion e carries the lens-embracing members e . The interlocking faces of the parts e , f are preferably bevelled. In the form shown in Figs. 13 and 14 the whole mounting is made in three parts. The portions c of the mounting are formed at the ends of the bridge b and have slotted portions e bearing against the periphery of the lens. Each of the other parts consists of a plaquet g , a plaquet-arm h , and the part f of the lens-clamp which engages the periphery of the lens and interlocks with the slotted portion e .

    • 109,310. Newbold, H. Sept. 9, 1916. Spectacles and eyeglasses. - The lenses of rimless spectacles and eyeglasses are each secured to the mount by means of a pair of members capable of sliding one into the other, the members being passed into a hole in the lens from opposite sides and secured together, and one of them being secured to the mount. As shown in Fig. 2, the members comprise a split socket g and a pin i respectively, the socket being secured to the mount by a lug d and a pin f which enters a peripheral notch in the lens to prevent rotation of the lens. The pin i is carried by a lug e which has a hole to receive the end of the pin f. The members may be secured together by solder, which is placed within the socket g and is heated after the parts are assembled, and may both be hollow and have hollow dome-shaped heads. The pin f may be dispensed with, and its function may be served by a strip engaging the periphery of the lens or by making the hole in the lens of suitable section, for example rectangular, triangular, or with inward projections. When the hole is rectangular, the members may each comprise dome-shaped heads with a pair of rectangular shanks.
