    • A pneumatic transmission system has a customer terminal, a teller terminal and a transmission tube connecting the terminals. A pair of blowers are disposed in the transmission tube. Each terminal has a slide gate which is operable to close the transmission tube, and a catch disposed below the gate which is operable to catch the pneumatic carrier. The carrier is transmitted from one terminal to the other terminal by opening the gate of the one terminal, closing the other gate of the other terminal, and energizing the blower remote from the one terminal, thereby creating a vacuum between the one blower and the carrier. The one blower is de-energized after the carrier has passed the one blower, and the carrier rides down on a cushion of air, coming to rest on the gate of the other terminal. The gate of the other terminal is then opened and the carrier drops downwardly onto the catch of the terminal. A controller and timer facilitate sequencing of the slide gates and blowers.

    • A lightweight, multilayered panel for use in a modular vault or safe structure has multiple layers of cross-grained wood boards secured together by a grid of hardened masonry nails. The nails are driven into the panel layers from both major face surfaces of the panel and are angled from the perpendicular of the major face surfaces of the panel to increase the probability of a penetrating instrument striking a nail during a penetration attempt. The panel is covered in a layer of sheet metal, and a layer of Kevlar or some other ballistic resistant material is placed on one or more major face surfaces. Rabbet edges on the panel allow an assembly with reinforced seams, and two single panels may be secured together to form a double reinforced vault panel.

    • An improved vault door having a daylock and a relock mechanism is disclosed. The door is selectively locked and unlocked within a frame of the vault by operating a pair of combination locks mounted to the door front to slide a lock bar mounted to the rear of the door. The daylock mechanism includes a spring biased member which engages a cavity in a daylock extension attached to the lock. This engagement holds the lock bar in the unlocked position so the door may be swung within the frame without the lock bar impacting the frame. A keylock mounted in the front of the door may be turned to withdraw the member from the cavity so the lock bar can be slid to secure the door in the frame. The relock mechanism includes a pivotably mounted bar held in a horizontal position by a pin mounted to an attack plate that is displaceably mounted to a mounting plate on the rear of the door. When a drill augers through the door and impacts the attack plate, the plate moves rearwardly to move the pin out of engagement with the pivotable bar. The bar then rotates to a position where it blocks the withdrawal of the lock bar to the unlocked position regardless of any operation of the combination locks.

    • A downsend terminal for a pneumatic transport tube system has a pivoting tube section pivoting about an upper horizontal axis to move the pivoting tube section between a first vertical position and a second oblique position. When at the oblique second position, the carrier is dropped out of the pivoting tube section onto a carrier support holding the carrier in a generally vertical position for access to the user. When the user completes the transaction, the terminal pulls the carrier vertically back into the pivoting tube section. If the carrier is overloaded, there is insufficient force to lift it off of the carrier support, and therefore an overloaded carrier is prohibited from entering the transport tube system. In addition, the construction prevents debris and other material from entering the transport tube system.
