    • A data entry system comprising of: an input surface, a limited number of input elements of any shape and positions at the input surface, and a processing device (for detecting a continuous sweeps of an input object over the input surface, for tracking a sequence of the input elements interacted with the input object during such sweeps, and for generating a function associated with the sequence after the sweep is completed). A system characterized in that the processing device is adapted for time independent and reliable detecting a sequence of input elements, even if an input object could interact with several input elements simultaneously. A system also characterized in that the sweeps may represent strokes of handwritten symbols. The invention can be utilized in new designs of compact data input systems for electronic devices.

    • Provided are systems for acceleration of text input for electronic devices, such as efficient and user-friendly input guessing systems for mobile phones. An input guessing system disambiguates user input to decrease the number of required key strokes for entry of desired input. An input guessing system uses one or more of optimal selection of a candidate word and position of the cursor within or after the candidate word based on minimization of expectation of the total weighted number of input events for all words, advanced disambiguating of input events, reduced ambiguity of a group containing a letter in a current position of the cursor, smart processing of word endings, advanced delimiting of words using an OK key, automatic addition of spaces, simple error correction, the ability to generate words with embedded special accented characters by typing the key associated with the unaccented version of the letter, and the ability to automatically disambiguate among multiple punctuation characters assigned to a single key based on the context of the keystroke to accelerate and simplify user input.

    • An electronic device may include a processor, a memory coupled to the processor, and a touch-enabled display coupled to the processor. The processor may be for generating a lattice of nodes of a circular packing being based upon a connected transformation of a square circular packing. The connected transformation may preserve adjacency between pairs of adjacent circles of the square circular packing after a transformation. The processor may also be for displaying a lattice keyboard on the touch-enabled display. The lattice keyboard may include keys, each of the key being associated with an input value and being selectable based on user touches provided to the touch enabled display. The keys may be arranged in a lattice pattern such that the center of each key is placed in the position of a respective node of the lattice.
