    • A twin tube shock absorber (10) having an improved compression valve mechanism (40) comprising a one-piece thin wall member (44) including a generally cylindrical body portion (46) having an annular flange portion (48) extending generally radially outwardly from the upper end thereof and a cup-shaped portion (50) of reduced diameter on the lower end thereof. The annular flange portion (48) has at least one upward deformation (52) formed therein defining a generally radially extending flow passage (54) beneath the flange portion (48) between the periphery thereof engaging the annular flange receiving surface (60) of the base member (56), the cylindrical portion (46) extending through the base member opening (58) and the end portion (50) spaced below the annular valve seat (62) of the base member (56). A coil spring (70) is disposed in surrounding relation to the cylindrical portion (46) of the thin wall member (44) between a spring retaining washer (64) fixed to the member (44) by deformation of the reduced end portion (50) thereof and a valve member (68) resiliently urged into engagement with the annular valve seat (62).
