    • Disclosed is a stringed instrument with embedded digital signal processing (DSP) modeling capabilities. The stringed instrument has a body and a plurality of strings and each of the plurality of strings is respectively coupled to a pickup of a polyphonic pickup. The polyphonic pickup is used to detect a vibration signal for each string. An A/D converter converts the detected vibration signal of a string into a digital string vibration signal. Further, a digital signal processor is located within the body of the stringed instrument to process the digital string vibration signal. Particularly, the digital signal processor is used to process the digital string vibration signal such that the corresponding string tone of one of a plurality of selectable stringed instruments may be emulated. The emulated digital tone signal is then converted to analog form to create an emulated analog tone signal for output to an amplification device.

    • Disclosed is a system and method to deliver a multimedia presentation of an audio file to a computing device (102) for display to a user and further to allow the user to play a musical instrument (112) in conjunction with the multimedia presentation. In response to a user selecting a musical piece at the computing device (102), a server (104) transmits a session file associated with the musical piece to the computing device (102) through a computer network (105). The session file includes an audio file and multimedia data such that the computing device (102) can process the session file to present the multimedia presentation of the audio file to the user. An interface device (106) is connected to the computing device (102) and to the user's musical instrument (112). The interface device (106) couples the musical instrument (112) to the computing device (102) such that the user can play the musical instrument (112) in conjunction with the multimedia presentation of the audio file.

    • Disclosed is an audio signal processor that determines the type of audio processing to be performed utilizing an audio processing device (APD) and a removable module. The APD includes a digital signal processor (DSP) that modifies an input audio signal in accordance with a signal processing instruction set. The removable module includes the signal processing instruction set, and when the removable module is coupled to the APD, the signal processing instruction set is transferred to and implemented by the DSP of the APD to perform an audio processing function upon the input audio signal. The removable module may also include a user interface having at least one control to set a control parameter that is transferred to the DSP of the APD to further modify audio processing. The APD may also include a multi-state footswitch whose functionality can be determined by the DSP.
