    • 206,994. Huntbatch, J. L., and Greenhalgh, C. Oct. 16, 1922. Feeding webs.-Scrimp rails for use in calico printing or other apparatus are made of porcelain or like refractory material in one length, or in sections, with an arched clothengaging face having sharp edged ridges and with a flat bottom surface having a series of small projections adapted to engage grooves in the rail supporting beam. As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the rail comprises one or more hollow sections b on each side of a central hollow wedge-shaped section a, the ends of the sections b being bevelled to the same angle as the section a. The upper faces of the sections a, b are of arched form and provided with sharp ridges a , b . The bottom surfaces of the sections are flat and provided with square projections c adapted to engage grooves d, d in the wood supporting beam e to assist in aligning the sections and to prevent sideways movement thereof. The sections are secured to the beam e by bolts i passing through holes g, f in the beam and bottom of the sections, and screwed into bars h within the sections, flexible packing strips j preferably being placed beneath the bars. Instead of the sections b, a number of separate plates each having an arched and bevelled upper edge may be employed. Thin sheets of rubber or other acid-proof packing may be inserted between the rail sections, and yielding material such as leather or lead may be placed between the rail and the beam. The beam e may have a slight camber from end to end. Wedge-shaped sections a of different sizes may be employed so that, in combination with the sections b, rails of any desired length may be built up.
