摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adapter bracket capable of mounting a conventional support foot tended to be mounted to an outer surface portion of a vehicle to an existing channel formed in the outer body surface of a vehicle roof. SOLUTION: The adapter bracket for use with a vehicle article carrier side rail to allow the side rail to be secured to channels formed in the outer body surface of the vehicle is provided. The adapter bracket includes a channel coupling portion adapted to be secured to a bottom wall of the channel. An intermediate portion extends from the channel coupling portion to perpendicularly extending flanges of the outer surface portion. The flanges of the outer surface portion are coupled to the support foot of the side rail to allow the support foot to be mounted essentially flush against the outer body surface without the need for drilling additional holes outside of the channel. SOLUTION: The clamp includes a base part and a clamp element linked with the base part like a hinge. A locking assembly fixes the clamp element to the base part without any external tool. The locking assembly includes an over center locking lever which is preliminarily tightened before moving from a non-latch position to a latch position, and gives a preliminary tightening force to the clamp element by such the way. The clamp element includes a C-shaped channel for receiving other similar element linked with a tap plate or the component attached to the cargo carrier.

SOLUTION: An article carrier 10 for a vehicle comprises a pair of side rails 16 and at least one adjustable cross bar 20. The cross bar 20 has a pair of bracket members 24 positioned in such a manner as to be freely adjusted along the side rails 16 at the outermost ends thereof. Each bracket member 24 has a rotating member 36 having a circumferential cam surface which comes into contact with the head part of a locking member 64. When the rotating member 36 is rotated in a first direction, the locking member 64 is energized by the cam surface to release the fastening and engagement with the related side rail 16. On the other hand, when the rotating member 36 is rotated in the opposite direction, the locking member 64 is energized by an energizing member 88 to fasten and engage the locking member 64 with the related side rail 16.
