    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the abrasion behavior and strength property of a round pin joint type toothed chain.
      SOLUTION: An inside toothed plate (7) and a toothed extension plate of the round pin joint type toothed chain having alternately-located outside and inside chain links include a noncircular joint opening (8) having first, second and third curvatures. The first curvature of the first radius of curvature (r1) is arranged in a region of an intersection of a longitudinal axis (L) and a contour of the joint opening. The second curvature of the second radius of curvature (r2) extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis (L) and is arranged in front of a straight line (G) intersecting the axis of a round pin. The third curvature of the third radius of curvature (r3) extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis (L) and is arranged in front of the straight line intersecting the axis of the round pin. The first radius of curvature is larger than the radius of the round pin of circular cross section, and the second radius of curvature and the third radius of curvature are larger than the first radius of curvature.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the functional principle of a tension applying device and particularly to achieve a suitable damping behavior by a reliable adjusting function. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a tension applying device for a flexible drive means and particularly to the chain tensioner for a timing chain of an internal combustion engine. The tension applying device includes a housing, a tension applying piston guided by a piston bore of the housing and a latch element disposed outside the housing. A latch contour is provided in a front area of the tension applying piston in the tension applying direction. The latch element includes at least one spring arm projected over the housing in the tension applying direction. The spring arm is engaged with the latch contour of the tension applying piston outside the housing. A latch element for defining the free operation range between the front end stop part and the rear end stop part in the tension applying direction and in the opposite direction is removably disposed in the housing.
