The stabilized solution should have a pH of 7-13 and preferably contains at least 40,000 p.p.m. ClO 2 and may contain the equivalent of 8-13% sodium carbonate peroxide as the stabilizer. The amount of added chloride should preferably be 0À1-20 moles per mole of ClO 2 in solution. Evaporation to dryness of the alkaline solution produces a detonation-resistant chlorite composition. The stabilized ClO 2 solution may be a solution of NaClO 2 or may be obtained by dissolving ClO 2 in a solution of A.H. peroxygen compound or hydrogen peroxide.

摘要： Provided is a process for preparing a gaseous stream of chlorine dioxide. The process comprises first providing an aqueous stream of chlorine dioxide (5). The chlorine dioxide stream can be provided, for example, by reacting an alkali metal chlorite such as sodium chlorite (1) with an alkali metal hypochlorite such as sodium hypochlorite (2) and an inorganic acid such as hydrochloric acid (3), or by reacting chlorine gas and an alkali metal chlorite such as sodium chlorite. The resulting aqueous stream is then contacted in countercurrent fashion (6) with a stream of inert gas or air (9), resulting in chlorine dioxide (10) being stripped from the aqueous stream. A chlorine dioxide containing gaseous stream is then recovered, which is suitable for further use. The process thereby safely and efficiently generates a gaseous stream of chlorine dioxide for subsequent use.

Shutoff valves (9) are provided in the feed lines (22, 23) of the compounds which cooperate with a supply monitoring system and a pH meter (7). When the monitoring system detects a loss in the supply of the water or one of the compounds, shutoff valves (9) are closed to restrict any further flow of the compounds through the feed lines (22, 23). The pH meter (7) is located downstream of the reaction. When the pH is detected to be outside of a particular range, the shutoff valves (9) are closed to restrict any further flow of the compounds through the feed lines (22, 23). This system for generating chlorine dioxide has the advantages of allowing one to prepare chlorine dioxide of optimal quality on a consistent basis and provides for immediate safeguards in the event of an emergency.

The method offers facilitated chlorine dioxide (ClO 2) generation and safer operation over wider ClO2 mass flow capacity, thus offering a more adaptable system for CLO2 treatments. Noise reduction and ease-of-use versus traditional eductor-based ClO2 generators are additional benefits from using this method.
