    • A window frame arrangement, such as for a window opening carried by a vehicle door, is described for use where a stiff window frame is provided with a smoothly radiussed region across a change in direction, such as a corner (14), of the opening. Two separate sealing and guiding strips made of flexible material, each defining a window-glass receiving channel, have respective mitre-cut ends joined together to form a sharp angle at the corner (14) which is outside the smoothly radiussed region of the frame there. One of the sealing and guiding strips comprises extruded material defining a channel (64) which embracingly grips a flange (58) forming part of the window frame. The flexible material defines a small lip (72) positioned for contacting the outside of the window glass (12), and is extended to provide a limb (74) carrying a larger lip (78) for contacting the inside surface of the window glass (12). This limb (74) lies alongside a panel part (54) which is part of the window frame and is secured thereto by an integral projection (82). The flexible material defines a hollow chamber (90) at the end of the limb (74). In the smoothly radiussed region of the window frame, the window frame panel (54) has a correspondingly greater and progressively varying length than elsewhere, and over this region the flexible material is cut through at the wall of the hollow chamber (90) and a separate edge formation part (100) is moulded onto the strip (and also onto the second strip meeting it at the sharp corner), and carries a cosmetic lip (102) which extends over a flange (62) at the edge of the panel (54). Along the remainder of the strip, outside the smoothly radiussed region, the flexible material adjacent the hollow chamber (90) defines an integral cosmetic lip.

    • A sealing, trimming or guiding strip (15) is shown for supporting a pane of window glass (52) in a frame (22,24,25) carried by the rear door in a vehicle body in the region of the C-pillar of the vehicle. The strip (15) is made of extruded material (16) defining a channel (18) which embracingly grips a flange (20) which is part of the frame of the window. The extruded material (16) is extended to form a limb (36) which supports a lip (46) contacting one surface of the window pane (52). On the opposite side of the channel (18), the extruded material (16) is extended to provide sealing lips (26) which press against a bodywork panel (28) forming the C-pillar. The reinforcing carrier (60) is embedded in the channel-shaped extruded material (16) to strengthen the latter's grip on the flange (20). The carrier (60) is provided with a plurality of transversely directed through slits to enable the carrier to be curved to match the curve of the C-pillar, but the carrier has a longitudinally extending unslit region (B) arranged on the outside of the curve. This unslit region (B) enables the carrier to be bent into the required curve without setting up stress in the extruded material (16).

    • A sealing, trimming or guiding strip comprises a first section having an extruded portion (19) which defines a channel for mounting on a vehicle window frame and has extending therefrom a flocked lip (53). A second section of the strip is provided which also comprises an extruded portion defining a channel for mounting on the frame and which has extending therefrom a flocked lip (76). The two sections are abutted and selected parts (for example, non-flocked parts) of the respective sections are joined together by a moulding operation which forms a flap (20) of moulded material extending between the respective sections. The heat from the moulding process activates a heat-activatable material applied to at least one of the flocked lips (53 and 70) at the surface where the respective lips abut at (17). The heat generated by the moulding process is sufficient to activate the heat-activatable material but does not damage the flocked material of the lips (53 and 76).

    • A waist belt (22), for fitting along an outside edge of the waist gap (15) in a door of a vehicle body through which a pane of window glass (14) can be raised or lowered, is made of extruded plastics or rubber material defining a channel (24) for embracingly gripping a flange (16) formed by panels (18,20) of the door. The waist belt carries a longitudinally extending decorative part (40), such as made of bright metal. This is located on an outside surface of the flexible material by means of a channel (42) and grooves (44,46) which receive longitudinal edges of the decorative part (40). The decorative part (40) is secured firmly in position on the flexible material by means of polyurethane bonding material which is received within a longitudinally extending channel (48) and a longitudinally extending passageway (50) and which adheres to the decorative part (40). The polyurethane bonding material (52) is preferably injected into the channel (48) and passageway (50) from a longitudinal end of the arrangement. The decorative part (40) is secured in position in this way on the outside of the flexible material before the waist belt (22) is mounted in position. If the flange is curved in the horizontal plane, the waist belt strip (22) can be held in a correspondingly curved configuration when the decorative strip is secured to it and the assembly can delivered to the vehicle manufacturer in this form. Thus the decorative part (40) is adequately supported against damage and the waist belt (22) is ready to be fitted to the curved flange.
