    • Provided are an exhaust treatment catalyst and an exhaust article containing the catalyst. The catalyst comprises: (a) a carrier; (b) a first layer deposited on the carrier, said first layer comprising substantially only at least one refractive metal oxide; (c) a second layer deposited on the first layer, said second layer comprising substantially only at least one oxygen storage component and at least one binder therefor; and (d) a third layer deposited on the second layer, said third layer comprising at least one layer of one or more platinum group metal components supported on a refractory metal oxide support. Optionally, a fourth layer is deposited on the third layer wherein the fourth layer comprises one or more platinum group metal components supported on a refractory metal oxide support. As a further option, an overcoat layer may be deposited on the third or fourth layer wherein the overcoat layer comprises a catalyst poison sorbent. Also provided are methods for preparing the catalyst and methods for monitoring the exhaust storage capacity of an exhaust article containing the catalyst.

    • One aspect of the present invention relates to a catalyst system for use in olefinic polymerization, containg a solid titanium catalyst component; an organoaluminum compound having at least one aluminun-carbon bond; and an organosilicon compound comprising a (cycloalkyl)methyl group. Another aspect of the present invention relates to a method of making a catalyst for use in olefinic polymerization, involving the steps of reacting a Grignard reagent having a (cycloalkyl)methyl group with an orthosilicate to provide an organosilicon compound having a (cycloalkyl)methyl moiety; and combining the organosilicon compound with an organoaluminum compound having at least one aluminum-carbon bond and a solid titanium catalyst component to form the catalyst.

    • A catalytic trap disposed in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine which is operated with periodic alternations between lean and stoichiometric or rich conditions. The trap comprises a catalytic trap material and a refractory carrier member on which the catalytic trap material is disposed. The catalytic trap material comprises: (i) a refractory metal oxide support; (ii) a catalytic component effective for promoting the reduction of NOx under stoichiometric or rich conditions; and (iii) a NOx sorbent. The NOx sorbent comprises a metal oxide selected from the group consisting of one or alkali metal oxides, alkaline earth metal oxides and mixtures of one or more alkali metal oxides and alkaline earth metal oxides. The manganese component is selected from the group consisting of: (1) a manganese oxide, (2) a mixed oxide of manganese and a transition metal and/or a rare earth metal, (3) a compound of an alkali metal and a manganese oxide, (4) a compound of an alkaline earth metal and a manganese oxide and (5) mixtures of the foregoing oxides and compounds.
