    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance flocculation effect without requiring a special stabilizer by forming an aq. soln. containing a heavy metallic substance to age the heavy metallic substance for a long time sufficient to apply effective treatment to water and adding the aq. soln. containing the aged heavy metallic substance to water to be treated. SOLUTION: When water is purified by using an aq. soln containing a heavy metallic substance acting as a flocculate, the aq. soln. containing the heavy metallic substance is formed and the heavy metallic substance is aged for a long time sufficient to apply effective treatment to water to be used as the flocculate. At this time, the aging time is set to at least about 15sec-1min. The soln. of the heavy metallic substance is pref. added before said substance begins to sediment. The heavy metallic substance is formed from iron chloride, iron sulfate or a mixture of them and the aq. soln. of the heavy metallic substance is pref. prepared so as to contain 2-3.5M of Fe.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower the contents of chlorides, potassium and other metallic ions in a recovery system of pulping chemicals by incinerating a liquid stock of a chemical pulp plant with a recovery boiler and leaching the produced precipitation tank dust with a leaching liquid under specific condition. SOLUTION: Used cooking liquor discharged from a digester is incinerated by a recovery boiler, the formed dust 1 is transferred to a leaching step 2 and solid phase 3 is separated from a leached solution 4 containing chloride, potassium and sulfate in concentrated state. The leached solution 4 is preferably transferred to an electrodialysis tank 5 to obtain a solution 6 containing concentrated chloride and potassium. A solution 7 containing concentrated sodium sulfate and having decreased chloride and potassium contents is recycled to the leaching step 2. The solid phase 3 is converted to a 2nd solid phase 9 containing metals, carbonates, sulfates and organic materials by filtration 8, etc., and the liquid 11 obtained by the addition of additional water to the solid phase is returned to the leaching process 2. A carbonate 12 may be added to the system in the leaching process 2.

    • The present invention relates to a process for the production of a cellulosic product which comprises providing an aqueous thick suspension containing cellulosic fibers having a fiber concentration of at least about 2% by weight; adding to the thick suspension an aluminum compound, alkaline earth metal salt and acid; diluting the obtained thick suspension to form a thin suspension; adding to the thin suspension one or more drainage and retention aids; and dewatering the obtained thin suspension. The invention further relates to a process for the production of a cellulosic product which comprises providing an aqueous thick suspension containing cellulosic fibers having a fiber concentration of at least about 2% by weight and an alkaline earth metal ion concentration of at least about 100 mg/l; adding to the thick suspension an aluminum compound and optionally an acid to obtain a pH of from about 4 to about 5.5; diluting the obtained thick suspension to form a thin suspension; adding to the thin suspension one or more drainage and retention aids; and dewatering the obtained thin suspension. The invention also relates to an aqueous composition comprising a mixture of an aluminum compound, alkaline earth metal salt and acid and the use of the composition.
