    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voltage balance apparatus and a voltage balance method for series-connected capacitors which have a balancing effect wherein approximately equivalent voltages of respective capacitors can be kept according to the order of the capacitors, and the possibility of a short-circuit can be avoided. SOLUTION: This voltage balance apparatus has variable switches connected in parallel with respective capacitors of a capacitor set which is a series unit and capacitor adjustment means both whose ends are connected to the variable switches and which are connected in parallel with the respective capacitors comprising the capacitor set, i.e., the series unit, by opening/closing the variable switches. In order to make the voltage balance apparatus operate, the variable switches are successively opened/ closed and, every time when each capacitor comprising the capacitor set is adjusted, the capacitor adjustment means is connected in parallel with the capacitor to be adjusted only and the electric charge of the capacitor to be adjusted is partially absorbed or supplied and then the capacitor adjustment means is connected in parallel with the next capacitor. Such a process is repeated. Reciprocally transferred carrier electric charge values of the capacitor adjustment means are utilized to keep respective voltages of the capacitors comprising the battery set, i.e., the series unit, always approximately constant.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection method of a lithium battery; and to provide its device.
SOLUTION: An external circuit 8 controls charge/discharge of a charging battery 4 to prevent the charging battery 4 from being overcharged or over-discharged. This protection device is provided with an abnormality-detecting circuit 2, a photo-coupling circuit 3, a identification circuit 8 and a balance circuit 9. The abnormality-detecting circuit 2 measures a voltage value of the charging battery 4 and transmits an inspection signal. If the inspection signal is normal, charge or discharge is continued. If the signal is abnormal, charge or discharge is cut off. The balance circuit 9 judges whether the charging battery is overcharged or not based on the inspection signal, and discharges the charging battery when overcharged. In the meantime, the photo-coupling circuit 3 makes a light emitting diode in response to an inspection signal voltage, and adjusts resistance of the photo-coupling circuit 3 by the resistance change of a phototransistor 32 to cut off the connection between the charging battery and the external circuit, and the identification circuit 8 transmits the location of the battery as a signal.

    • A protecting method for lithium battery and device thereof are applied for the control of a battery's charged or discharged procedure in order to prevent it from being overcharged or over-discharged. This protecting device of lithium battery 4 is comprised of abnormality-detecting circuit 2, photo-coupling circuit 3, balance circuit 9, and identity circuit 8. The abnormality-detecting circuit checks voltage value of a charged battery and outputs a measuring signal. If the signal is normal, then the charge or discharge will be continued. If the signal is abnormal, the charge or discharge will be cut off. Next, the balance circuit will judge if the measuring signal is an overcharging signal in order to decide that the battery will be discharged or not. In the meantime, if the signal is abnormal, the photo-coupling circuit will adjusts its-impedance to cut off the connection between the charged battery and an external circuit, and the identity circuit will provide the location of the battery that sends out the abnormal signal.
