    • At least two magnetic induction elements operated with alternating current are disposed successively in the longitudinal direction at the guide for a strand of a continuous casting plant, and in particular for a continuous steel casting plant, to provide a stirring mechanism. Each induction element is connected to its own phase (R, S, T, N) of the at least two phase alternating current and the phases (R, S, T, N) are shifted with respect to each other by a phase angle of from about 0 to 180 degrees. In order to avoid the formation of a continously uniformly directed circulating current of metal despite a simple and sturdy stirring provision and without the presence of additional switching circuits, the phases (R,S,T) generate in each case electromagnetic forces under formation of a magnetic alternating field at at least two neighboring induction elements, where the momentary value differences and the directional differences correspond to a phase shift of .PHI.+180 degrees.

    • A support machine is provided for a ladle in a continuous casting. A rotatable column is positioned on a bearing on a foundation base. A ladle support arm is pivoted around a horizontal axis, includes a yoke surrounding the rotatable column and has a U-shaped planar projection, and two lever legs running about in parallel and each extending an end of the yoke. A ladle support is disposed near an end of each lever leg. A support provision for each lever leg is disposed between the ladle support and the yoke for supporting the lever leg on the side of the column disposed toward the corresponding ladle. A position adjustment provision is attached to the column, is disposed at the side of the column opposite to the corresponding support provisions and engages the yoke. A ladle support is disposed near the free end of the support arm and can be pivoted around a horizontal axis provided by a hinge mechanism. An inclination measurement sensor is disposed at the ladle support of the ladle support arm. A control provision is connected to the inclination measurement sensor and a setting provision for the ladle support fed from the sensor maintains the ladle support in a desired position.

    • A continuous mold for a continuous casting plant comprises inner walls made from copper and/or an alloy of copper and a wear resistant and abrasion resistant layer disposed on the copper and/or copper alloy on the inner exposed side of the mold. The layer covers at most two fifths of the total surface of a side wall and reaches from the output end of the mold up to about one third of the length of the mold at the center of the respect side of the mold. The wear resistant layer reaches in the area of the inner edges of the mold from the output end of the continuous mold to at least about the same level as the layer at the center of the respective side wall and up to the input end of the mold. The wear resistant layer can be provided as an open net like a grid or as a grate on the inner wall of the continuous mold with the surface areas in the open parts in between being formed by copper and/or a copper alloy. The geometrical construction of the wear resistant layer allows to employ wear resistant layers of substantial thickness without interfering with the heat transfer to the mold.

    • A system is provided for limiting the parameters of the motion of a billet in a bow-type continuous casting plant. The stiffness of the billet is determined from values of the motion of the elements of the billet and/or from properties of the advancing billet as picked up by sensing elements. The determined values are compared with preset limiting values for parameters such as the maximum residual withdrawal time, the maximum still permissible stoppage time period and/or the permissible minimum withdrawal speed. If the limiting values are exceeded a signal is provided by a computing provision and fed to an alarm or is used to trigger a shut-off of the continuous casting process.
