    • 368,948. Moulding floors in situ. MACDONALD, A. S., 350, George Street, Sydney, Australia. Feb. 16, 1931, No. 4859. Convention date, May 26, 1930. [Class 20 (ii).] Centering for concrete floors and the like comprises, in combination, a shell of box or like formation open at the bottom and having flanges extending from its lower edges, and a reinforcement capable of being removed from the shell after the'concrete has set. According to one construction, the shell 11, Fig. 1, is of corrugated paper, sheet metal, strawboard, or other light material, and has four sides 12 which terminate in flanges 13. The shell is reinforced by a removable core 14 of paper board or the like. The core is of cellular formation and is formed from a number of longitudinal and transverse intersecting slotted strips. The shell and the reinforcement may be waterproofed by treating them with paraffin wax, animal fat, or nitrocellulose paint. In a modification, the reinforcment is in the form of a wooden box comprising sides 22 .. 25, Fig. 6, and a loosely applied top 26, the sides being loosely connected by stops 27, 28, and angle-plates 29. In another modification, the sides and top of the box are rigidly connected together. Alternatively, the reinforcement may comprise a box of sheet metal, the four vertical corners of which are slotted to facilitate its withdrawal. The shells are held in position during the pouring of the concrete 34, Fig. 8, by tacks which are driven through the flanges 13 into battens 33 or the like. A trough-like girder may be formed by placing a number of reinforcing members end to end and covering them by shells 11, the adjacent walls of which may be bent upwardly to cover the gaps between the reinforcing members.
