    • An object is to obtain a planar light source which is free from brightness variations or chromaticity variations by using a point light source having a high directivity for emitted light, and another object is to provide a liquid crystal display device capable of obtaining superior display characteristics by using this planar light source device. A planar light source device having an opening in the upper surface comprises a hollow box, a diffusion plate disposed in the opening, a reflecting plate disposed on the bottom of the hollow region of the box, and a plurality of point light sources disposed in a row along at least one side surface of the box. This planar light source device is characterized by including a refracting element disposed parallel to the row of point light sources and between the point light sources and the hollow region for refracting the light from the point light sources, whereby the light at an incident angle at which the brightness is greatest in the luminous intensity distribution of the light radiated to the irradiation subject surface of the refracting element is refracted to the bottom surface of the box by the refracting element.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve display quality and production efficiency of a liquid crystal display device by proposing a transfer post causing no display defect due to difference in a gap between itself and a spacer or a sealant defining the cell gap. SOLUTION: A recessing part 7 is provided on a place of one out of a pair of substrates where the transfer post 6 is arranged. When a height of the transfer post 6, a height of the recessing part 7 and a diameter of the spacer 4 are represented by a, b and c respectively, the heights of the transfer post 6 and the recessing part 7 are defined so as to satisfy an inequality a-c>=b. Thereby the liquid crystal display device with the high display quality, hardly influenced by the spacer 4 and the sealant 5 defining the cell gap and causing no display defect due to the difference in the gap between the transfer post 6 and them is obtained. Also the transfer post 6 is not influenced by a thermo compression condition unlike a conventional transfer material because it is patterned with photoengraving and consequently its height is easily controlled and the productivity is improved.
