    • A jointing holder for an optical module for single-fiber bidirectional communication comprises a unitarily structured cylindrical body that has the following portions: (a) an optical fiber-fixing portion for securely holding an optical fiber for transmitting multiwavelength light bidirectionally, (b) a semiconductor laser-fixing portion for securely holding a semiconductor laser for emitting outgoing light λ1, (c) a photodiode-fixing portion for securely holding a photodiode for receiving incoming light λ2, (d) an optical path-forming space for optically coupling the optical fiber, the semiconductor laser, and the photodiode, and (e) in the optical path-forming space, an optical filter-fixing face for securely holding an optical filter for separating multiplexed wavelengths.     • A standard multichannel optical fiber has a pitch 250 &mgr;m (P1), whereas mounting of optoelectronic device chips can require a pitch P2 larger than P1. The pitch of element fibers should be enlarged for coupling a multichannel ribbon fiber to a multichannel photodiode (PD) or laser diode (LD) module having photodiodes or laser diodes for M channels. The module includes a connector maintaining M fibers with tails extending backward and a bench having M V-grooves aligned at the larger pitch P2 for receiving the tails of the fibers. M light waveguides are aligned at the pitch P2 following the V-grooves. The module also includes M photodiodes or laser diodes following the light waveguides. A package includes the connector at a front part, the fiber tails at a width enlarging region for converging the pitch from P1 to P2, and the bench at a back part.
