    • An improved mold assembly for producing an article and for use with an air source is disclosed. The mold assembly is of the type including at least two mold portions configurable to form a mold having an interior mold cavity in the shape of said article, one or more of said mold portions each including an interior conduit for delivering air from said air source in use. The improvement comprises, for each of said one or more mold portions, a pair of mold parts each having an abutment surface, one of said abutment surfaces having defined therein a groove. The pair of mold parts is disposed in an operative configuration whereat they define at least in part said each mold portion, whereat the abutment surfaces lie flush against one another and whereat the groove defines at least part of the interior conduit in said each mold portion.

    • A plastic injection mold is disclosed for molding a cylindrical container having an enlarged annular rim and an annular flange spaced below the rim. The mold includes a core portion and a cavity portion which define therebetween the container to be molded. The core portion includes an inner, annular ejector ring defining a portion of the enlarged container rim. The core portion also includes an outer, annular ejector ring coaxially located adjacent to the inner ejector ring. Axially movable first push rods are connected to the inner ejector ring for moving both rings outwardly to partially eject a molded container upon opening of the mold. The core portion also includes cylinders and pistons connected to the outer ejector ring for separating and moving the outer ejector ring outwardly relative to the inner ejector ring to complete the ejection of the molded container from the mold core.

    • A series of injection molding nozzles, one series having a two-piece nozzle (for use with a conventional nozzle housing), another series having a three-piece nozzle (for use with a conventional nozzle housing), and yet another series having a two-piece nozzle (for use with modified nozzle housing). The two-piece nozzles include either a nozzle insert with a sealing surrounding piece portions (when used with a conventional nozzle housing), or an inner insert with an outer insert portions (when used with modified nozzle housings). The three-piece nozzles include an inner insert, an outer insert and a sealing surrounding piece portions. The modified nozzle housings include a press-fit frontal insert. The nozzles form multiple seals with the nozzle housing and reduce heat loss by unique geometric and material combinations.

    • A nozzle (10) and gate (18) for a plastic injection mold (12) wherein the gate (18) has a primary sealing surface (50) located adjacent to the vestige (22) and a secondary sealing surface (54) located behind or inwardly of the primary sealing surface (50). The nozzle (10) has an insert retainer (42) threadably mounted therein to hold a tip or torpedo type insert (64). The insert retainer (42) has an outer annular primary seal (46) which engages the gate primary sealing surface (50), and an intermediate annular secondary seal (56) which engages the gate secondary sealing surface (54). The primary seal (46) prevents hot plastic from passing behind the nozzle and the secondary seal (56) ensures that even if some plastic gets behind the primary seal, it will not pass behind secondary seal (56) and contact heating coil (33). The main body portion may be shaped to form a third seal (80) for engagement with the secondary sealing surface (54) behind the position of the secondary seal (56).

    • A lid for a container forming an upper rim portion. The lid comprises a central portion and a peripheral skirt portion forming a downwardly disposed channel extending around the periphery of the lid. The channel is adapted to overlie the container upper rim portion and to hold a sealing gasket therein at an upper portion of the channel. The skirt portion forms a plurality of bendable flaps extending within said channel, each of which being movable from a first position wherein each said flap extends across a portion of said channel preventing said gasket from falling out of the channel to a second position wherein each said flap is positioned within a relief pocket formed within said skirt wall. Each flap is urged from said first position to said second position by the rim of the container as it is inserted within said channel and pressed into engagement with said gasket. The flap may be inserted in a clearance fit within said pocket and remains in said pocket once urged therein by said rim portion. Alternately each flap may be pressed into friction fit engagement within said pocket and is fixed within said pocket once pressed therein.
