摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sintered titanium-based carbonitride alloy containing Ti, Nb, W, C, N and Co for metal cutting application, particularly general finishing operation.
SOLUTION: The alloy contains Ti, Co, each impurity level of Ni and Fe, 4 to 7 atomic percent of Nb and 3 to 8 atomic percent of W and has a C/(N+C) ratio ranging from 0.50 to 0.75. The amount of a non-solid solution Ti(C, N) core should be kept between 26 and 37 vol.% of a hard phase, the balance being one or more complex carbonitrides containing Ti, Nb and W. The resultant alloy is useful for semifinishing of steel and cast iron.

SOLUTION: The alloy contains Ti, 3 to below 9 at% Co, Ni and Fe on impurity levels, 2 to below 4 at% Nb, and 3 to 8 at% W and has a C/(N+C) ratio of 0.50 to 0.75. It requires that the amount of a non-soluble Ti(C, N) core should retain 26 to 37 vol% hard phase and the balance comprising at least one complex carbonitride containing Ti, Nb, and W. This alloy is useful for, especially, superfinishing work of steel and cast iron.

SOLUTION: This method includes steps of: forming a homogeneous slurry of desired composition by mixing powdered raw materials, that is, cubic boron nitride, hexagonal boron nitride, and one or plural kinds among TiC, TiN, Ti(C, N), WC, W, C, Co, Co2Al9, Al, AlN, and Al2O3 together with appropriate liquid (e.g. ethanol) and a binder (e.g. polyethylene glycol); forming a spherical agglomerated powder typically of 100 μm diameter preferably by spray drying; filling the recesses, pockets, or grooves of a base material of cemented carbide or cermet with PcBN powder; removing the agent from the powder at an appropriate temperature under an appropriate atmosphere; and forming a composite body by sintering the PcBN powder particles together in a vessel under high pressure and high temperature conditions and simultaneously bonding them to form the base material.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a cutting tool insert of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride, capable of producing a final shape having an extremely narrow allowable error and a green body density of extremely high reproducibility by using the ordinary automatic tool pressing technique. SOLUTION: This method includes steps of: forming a homogeneous slurry of a desired composition by mixing, as powdered raw materials, cubic boron nitride, hexagonal boron nitride, and at least one kind among TiC, TiN, Ti(C, N), WC, W, C, Co, Co2Al9, Al, AlN, and Al2O3 together with appropriate liquid and a binder; forming an agglomerated powder of 100 μm diameter by spray drying; forming a body with a desired size and density by using the conventional tool pressing technique; removing the binder from the body at an appropriate temperature under an appropriate atmosphere; raising the temperature to 1000-1350 deg.C in vacuum; subjecting the body to solid solution sintering at 1000-1350 deg.C for 1-90 min in vacuum to form a body of 35-55 vol.% porosity; arbitrarily adding 0.5-1000 mbar nitrogen into the sintering atmosphere during holding time or cooling; and applying high pressure and high temperature treatment to the porous body to form a dense body of a desired shape and size.
