Such organic pollutants are known to be able to be removed by employing electrochemical processes, for which purpose oxygen is required. A chemical oxygen demand (COD value) is defined for industrial practice, which value must be met by industry. According to the invention the organic pollutants are first concentrated (1, 2) and the liquid containing the concentrated pollutants is then subjected to an electrolysis (3).
