SOLUTION: The optical glass has a composition within the following range, in mass% based on oxide: 40-58 of P 2 O 5 , 20-34 of ZnO, 0.5-5 of Li 2 O, and 0.1-11 of GeO 2 . The glass may also contain ≤5 mass% of each of SiO 2 and B 2 O 3 and 2 O 3 (provided that the sum of these oxides is less than 9 mass%). Further, the glass may contain ≤3 mass% of each of MgO and SrO, ≤5 mass% of CaO and/or ≤10 mass% of BaO (provided that the sum of these oxides is ≤12 mass%).
