    • A clamp device including a resilient lining and with the clamp including an elongated member having a loop portion, and a resilient lining formed by a strip of resilient material of a sufficient length to extend along the elongated member in the loop portion and of a sufficient width to extend across the elongated member in the loop portion. The strip of resilient material is formed on one side of the strip for attachment to the loop portion of the elongated member so as to have the strip form a resilient lining on the inside of the loop portion of the elongated member. The strip of resilient material includes gripping means formed on the other side of the strip and with the gripping means formed as a plurality of needle-like protruberences extending along the length and across the width of the strip from the other side of the strip and toward the center of the loop portion of the elongated member. Individual ones of the needle-like protruberences may be staggered relative to adjacent others of the needle-like protruberences across the width of the strip. Also, rows of ones of the individual needle-like protruberences may have different heights relative to others of the individual needle-like protruberences.

    • A clamp includes a cushion and a strap each made from a resilient material. The cushion has a body portion and a pair of lip portions extending toward each other in spaced relationship to the body portion to define a pocket. The strap is disposed in the pocket and is bendable in a loop to retain a cable within the cushion.A pair of projections extend from the body portion at the side opposite to the lip portions. The projections are shaped to retain cables of different cross-sectional area in the space between the projections when the strap is bent in the loop. The projections define resilient springs which bend outwardly from each other to accommodate cables of different cross-sectional area.Each of the projections has a pyramidal shape and defines a shallower angle with the body portion at the inboard side than at the outboard side. The width of each projection is approximately equal to the height. A hole may be provided at the base of each projection to facilitate controlled bending of the projection and the damping of vibrations of the cable.

    • A valve assembly provides for a controlled flow of waste material from a toilet in an aircraft under all weather conditions including freezing. The valve assembly includes a first valve disposed within a hollow tube and manually movable between a first position sealing the tube against the passage of waste material and a second position providing for such passage. The valve includes first and second members and a plate manually rotatable within the tube between the first and second positions, the second member and the plate receiving a multiplied force from a further rotation of the first member to pivot to a position sealing the valve to the tube. An energy storage member associated with the second member facilitates the pivotable movement of the second member. Detents in the tube and at the end of the second member retain the plate in sealing relationship with the tube. The valve assembly also includes a second valve mounted externally on the tube downstream from the first valve and manually rotatable between a first position sealing the tube and a second position opening the tube. The second valve includes a member for rotating, and then pivoting, the second member and the plate in the first valve from the second position to the sealed relationship with the tube when the second valve is rotated from the second position to the first position. The second valve includes a retainer in the tube and a mechanism on the valve for latching the second valve to the tube in the first position of the second valve.

    • Apparatus seals holes in an airplane bulkhead and provides for the passage through such holes of members (e.g. electrical wires) furnishing utilities to the airplane. The apparatus includes: 1. A hollow sleeve made from a light, strong and stable material (e.g. titanium) to provide a conduit for the utility members; 2. A relatively hard (e.g. 90 durometer "A") grommet having an internal opening and with an axially extending recess for disposition on the bulkhead with the bulkhead hole in the recess; and 3. A compliant (e.g. 55 durometer "A") gasket with internal opening to receive the sleeve in tight fit relationship. The gasket is provided with first and second portions each having an external periphery with a diameter greater than the diameter of the internal opening in the grommet. The gasket has an external recess axially defined between the first and second portions to receive the grommet at the internal opening in the grommet. The first portion may have voids and an external diameter to provide for a compression to a diameter no greater than that of the external recess. This facilitates the disposition of the grommet on the gasket with the internal opening in the grommet disposed in the external recess in the gasket. The gasket may be cut radially between its external periphery and its internal opening to facilitate the disposition of the gasket on the sleeve. The grommet and the gasket are provided with novel compositions and are made by novel methods.

    • Apparatus for clamping a cable, wiring or tubing, includes a pair of straps each made from a springlike material and each having a flat portion and a looped portion extending from the flat portion in mating relationship to the looped portion of the other strap to define a clamp. Each of the looped portions has an open configuration at one end for a sliding relationship between the looped portions to define the relative closure of the clamp. The looped portion on one of the straps may extend from the flat portion in a clockwise direction and the looped portion on the other strap may extend from the flat portion in a counterclockwise direction. The flat portions on the straps are disposed relative to each other for clamping to provide for a closure of the clamp. Means such as holes are disposed in the flat portions of the straps for providing for a clamping of the flat portions to obtain a closure of the clamp against the cable, wiring or tubing. Cushion means made from a resilient material are disposed on the looped portions of the straps to facilitate the fixed disposition of the clamp on the cable, wiring or tubing. The cushion means may be slit along its length to provide for a fixed disposition of the clamp on the cable without binding.
