    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of providing accurate gains based on estimated velocities of mobile stations while storing in each base station a table of gains and pilot channel power levels for the mobile stations to specify traffic channel power levels for the mobile stations, in order to coherently demodulate reverse-link traffic channels in a cdma2000 wireless communication network.SOLUTION: A method of modifying gain tables for reverse-link communications includes the steps of estimating the velocity of a mobile station for a given frame error rate (FER) and data rate, and preparing options of three gains on the basis of the estimated velocity in order to specify a reverse-link transmit power level. The velocity estimation may be performed using a level crossing technique, a covariance approximation technique, or a Doppler spectrum estimation technique.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a time offset technique for increasing the capacity of a CDMA system.
      SOLUTION: In a method for limiting a peak transmission power region in a CDMA communication system by transmitting a first communication signal having a first high transmission power region and transmitting a second communication signal having a second high transmission power region, the first and second communication signals are time offset to prevent the first and second high transmission power regions from occurring simultaneously. Time shifting of only a portion of the first and second communication signals is also taught. The first and second communication signals can also include respective first and second low transmission power regions. The time offset can be selected to align one of the first and second high transmission power regions with one of the first and second low transmission power regions. The total transmission power signal can be determined and the time offset can be selected to minimize the peak level of the total transmission power signal.
