摘要： Storage media and methods of reading data from and writing data to said storage media are provided. Information is stored as a mixture of small molecules (MolBits), arranged in an array of addressable locations on a substrate. The mixture comprises at least two subsets of molecules being identifiable by different properties thereof. In one embodiment, the information stored in the mixture (1-16) is decoded by a first step of separating subsets of Molbits having different retardation factors (Rf, I - VIII) on a thin layer chromatography plate. In a second step the separated subsets (4, 15; 10, 16) can be readout differently using various visualization methods adapted to the different properties. Each MolBit is uniquely associated with a predetermined position in a numerical value, wherein the presence of the Molbit in the mixture indicates a predetermined digit at the associated position and the absence of said molecule in the mixture indicates a zero at said associated position.

摘要： Cellulose materials allow selective absorption of emulsified and dissolved hydrocarbons from water. Hydrophobic cellulosic surfaces are prepared in a gas-phase silanization process. The process of using 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl coated paper, cotton fabric and wool in separating hydrocarbon from water is described in details. A functional pillow is provided from encapsulation of untreated cotton wool into 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl functionalized cotton fabric container. The pillow repels water with 100% efficiency, and can absorb large volumes of hydrocarbon depending on its size. The purity of the treated water is >99% for emulsified oils. Additionally, hydrophobic paper can extract dissolved benzene from contaminated water.

摘要： Reconfigurable soft robotic actuators with hard components are described. Magnetic attraction is used to couple flexible molded bodies capable of actuation upon pressurization with other flexible molded bodies and/or with hard components (e.g., frames and connectors) to form a seal for fluidic communication and cooperative actuation. Pneumatic de-coupling chambers built into the hard components to de-couple the hard components from the magnetically-coupled soft molded bodies are described. The use of magnetic self-alignment coupling and pneumatic de-coupling allows for the remote assembly and disassembly of complex structures involving hard and soft components. The magnetic coupling allows for rapid, reversible reconfiguration of hybrid soft-hard robots for repair, testing new designs, and carrying out new tasks.

摘要： A system and method that quantifies the concentration of an immunoactive analyte by detecting a chemically amplified change in density. This method, termed DeLISA for Density-Linked Immunosorbent Assay, but useful for any biomolecular recognition event, uses magnetic levitation (MagLev) io detect the changes in density. The present disclosure provides a quantitative measure of detecting binding events, does not require the use of electricity, and can be easily multiplexed to detect multiple analytes since several beads can be placed in single serum sample to detect, for example, HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis C, and the like, simultaneously.
