    • In order to adapt an anti-lock brake system to the condition of the road surface, which may be dry or slippery, in an electronic control circuit the reference value for the rate of change of the wheel speed of a braked wheel, i.e., the deceleration and the acceleration, is varied in time from a fixed initial value for deceleration to a given acceleration value. This variation is made operative, as soon as the solenoid of the valve mechanism in the hydraulic brake connection is energized by the control circuit. As the case may be, a fixed time delay before the variation occurs may be built in. Steps are also taken to suppress effects of noise pulses and oscillations in the wheel suspension, and in the case of a very slippery road surface the control circuit is reset after a given time.

    • A control circuit for a vehicle anti-lock brake system that includes a wheel sensor that produces electric signals proportional to the wheel speed, a control circuit responsive thereto to produce an electrical output when the wheel deceleration exceeds a given value, and a control valve responsive to said electrical output to release the braking pressure. The control circuit includes a pulse generator that produces a series of pulses during an anti-lock period. If the wheel continues to decelerate despite the release of the braking pressure, then the control circuit continues to supply output pulses at a rate which is a function of the wheel deceleration until the wheel deceleration no longer exceeds said given value.

    • An anti-lock vehicle brake control system includes a control circuit that energizes the brake solenoid when the wheel deceleration exceeds a reference value. The normal energization period of the solenoid is determined by the time it takes for the released wheel to again reach the reference value speed. On a slippery road it takes longer for the wheel to reach the reference value. When the normal energization period exceeds a given time period indicative that braking occurs on a slippery road, the control circuit extends the period of solenoid energization so that the wheel speed approximates the vehicle speed before the brakes are reapplied.

    • An anti-lock vehicle brake control system comprising a wheel sensor for generating a train of pulses at a frequency proportional to the wheel speed. A switching transistor receives the pulses. A first capacitor is coupled to the output of the switching transistor via a first isolation diode. The switching transistor causes the first capacitor to charge up to a predetermined voltage level for each pulse received. A discharge circuit allows the first capacitor to discharge in the interval between successive pulses. A second capacitor is permanently connected to a source of charging current and is also coupled to the first capacitor via a second isolation diode so that the second capacitor will discharge towards the voltage level on the first capacitor to produce a voltage on the second capacitor that is proportional to wheel speed. The latter voltage is used to actuate a control valve in the vehicle brake fluid pressure system to relieve the braking pressure whenever said capacitor voltage exceeds a given value.
