THE CONVEYOR MOVES THE TRAY TO A STERILIZING STATION, WHERE THE CONTAINERS IN THE TRAY ARE STERILIZED. THE STERILIZED CONTAINERS ARE THEN TRANSPORTED TO A FILLING STATION,

      WHERE THE COMESTIBLE TO BE PACKAGED IS PLACED WITHIN THE CONTAINERS. THE FILLED CONTAINERS THEN PROGRESS TO A COVER APPLYING STATION WHERE A COVER FILM IS HEAT SEALED TO THE FILLED CONTAINERS. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE COVERED CONTAINERS MOVE TO A CUTTING STATION WHEREIN THE COVER FILM IS BOTH LONGITUDINALLY AND TRANSVERSELY SLIT TO SEGREGATE EACH OF THE INDIVIDUAL CONTAINERS ON ITS CARRIER TRAY. THE TRAYS WITH THE FILLED AND SEALED CONTAINERS THEN PASS TO A REMOVAL STATION, WHERE THE TRAYS ARE REMOVED AND PACKED FOR SUBSEQUENT SHIPMENT TO AN END USER.

    • An apparatus for unloading stacks of containers from a carton and for transferring the stacks of containers to the sections of a hopper structure associated with a container filling machine. The apparatus includes a clamping structure for positively retaining the carton of containers and for placing the carton in slidable association on a frame above a stack elevator structure. The carton contains a plurality of layers of plural stacks with adjacent layers being separated by spacer sheets, and the apparatus includes means for removing the spacer sheets as the stacks of containers are lifted into position for movement down an inclined discharge ramp. The apparatus includes a transport mechanism for receiving stacks of containers from the discharge ramp and for transporting the stacks to a chute assembly. The transport means includes an inversion mechanism for dumping the stacks into the chute structure, and the chute structure is positioned to be moved into stack transferring relationship with respect to the sections of the hopper filling machine.

    • A method and apparatus for dispensing containers, and filling the containers with a liquid or semi-solid food product. The container dispensing assembly is adapted to simultaneously dispense the lowermost container from a plurality of stacks of containers in a magazine assembly; and to insure positive dislodgement of the lowermost containers, a stripping plate is positioned above the lowermost containers during the container dispensing step, while lifting plates simultaneously move the containers remaining in the stacks upwardly to positively separate the lowermost containers from the remaining containers. The apparatus includes a conveyor for moving the containers to a filling station, and a suction actuated carrier means positively transports the dispensed lowermost containers to the conveyor and deposits them in a row thereon. A positive displacement piston type pumping means is provided at the container filling station for discharging product into each container in the row, and each pumping means includes a shiftable spool type valve for accurately controlling the amount of product that is dispensed into each container. The pumping means each include a product dispensing nozzle, and the spool valve is arranged to create a suction on each nozzle during movement of each row of containers to the filling station to prevent dripping and wastage of product. The volumetric output of the pumping means is accurately controlled by a means for adjusting the length of the stroke of the piston means.
