    • An apparatus (10) for spraying powder coating material includes a rotatable turret (14) which moves articles (12) to and from a work station (16). A powder spray gun (18) is operable to spray a pattern onto each of the articles (12) in turn while the article (12) is at the work station (16). The powder flows through the spray gun (18) as a series of pulses. An excess powder collector draws a flow of powder away from the work station (16). A virgin powder container (146) supplies powder to a powder collector container (92) which supplies powder to a powder feed container (56) which supplies powder to the spray gun (18). Sensors (150,152,154) associated with the virgin (146), collector (92) and feed (56) containers ensure that a predetermined quantity of powder is maintained in each container. During transport of powder from the virgin (146) and collector (92) containers, the containers and their associated pumps (162,174) are vibrated to facilitate the flow of powder. The powder spray gun (18) is mounted on a three axis adjustment assembly to enable the powder spray gun nozzle (52) to be accurately positioned relative to an article (12) at the work station (16).

    • A continuous coater of the type having a conveyor extending through a coating booth (11) where paint or other material is sprayed onto the products as they are conveyed through the booth. The booth (11) has an air flow control vestibule (12, 13) located adjacent the entrance and exit ports. Each vestibule (12, 13) is connected to an air flow exhaust system (15, 16) and is so configured that it is operative to draw air (65) almost exclusively from outside the booth into the exhaust system so that there is a minimum of input air to the exhaust system from within the booth. The incoming air from outside the booth effectively forms a flow barrier to the egress of sprayed material and/or solvent to the atmosphere through the vestibul entrance and exit ports. Preferably, there is located in each vestibule means for creating an air curtain (108) which functions to minimize the egress of paint or solvent from the coater cabinet and to provide a more nearly saturated atmosphere inside the cabinet.
