    • An automatic performance apparatus that can change the performance speed of desired sections in a piece of music automatically performed. The apparatus comprises a section designator for designating a specific section in the piece, a time evaluator for counting performance duration of the piece, a modifier for modifying either the duration of the specific section (or the duration of a section other than the specific section) by modifying the tempo of the automatic performance or duration of notes of the performance data so that the performance duration of the automatic performance becomes equal to the desired duration. Thus, the total duration of the piece is adjusted to the desired duration while maintaining the duration of the specified section (or the duration of the sections other than the specified section).

    • An automatic performance apparatus provides a performance data memory including plural storing areas each capable of storing different performance data independently. The performance data can be selectively written in and read from each storing area. Based on the performance data read from each storing area, a musical tone signal for an automatic performance is generated independently. When the performance data memory includes two storing areas, the performance data concerning two tunes or two parts can be stored. One of two automatic performances based on the performance data can be selectively played. In addition, two automatic performances can be also player simultaneouly, wherein a predetermined delay time can be provided between two automatic performances. Further, predetermined kinds of rhythm patterns are pre-stored in a rhythm pattern memory in order to perform the desirable rhythm pattern as an accompaniment of the automatic performance.

    • In a digital network system, such as ISDN (Integrated Service Digital Network) system, a data link is established between transmit-side and receive-side stations so that a data transfer is performed onto a public telephone line in accordance with a predetermined protocol. The transmit-side station compresses data read from a storage medium and then transfers compressed data to the receive-side station, while the receive-side station expands the compressed data and then writes it into a storage medium. Before transferring the compressed data, the transmit-side station transmits a data transfer request to the receive-side station, so that if the receive-side station is now ready to receive the compressed data, the transmit-side station transfers the compressed data to the receive-side station. On the other hand, when completing a data transfer, the transmit-side station transmits an end request of data transfer to the receive-side station, so that if the receive-side station is now in a state to respond to a data transfer completion, the data link formed between the transmit-side and receive-side stations is terminated. Herein, the whole storage area of the storage medium is divided into plural storage blocks, so that the data transfer is performed with respect to each storage block. Preferably, the storage medium is a floppy disk, so that each storage block corresponds to each track formed on the floppy disk.
