    • A method of processing digital content on a content processing device includes receiving digital content that has been protected through encoding and/or scrambling using a predetermined algorithm. Additionally, an obfuscated computer program is received that is associated with the protected digital content for execution by the processing device. The program includes authentication instructions for performing authentication of the processing device and conversion instructions for performing at least a part of decoding and/or descrambling of the protected digital content in dependence on a response of the processing device to an authentication challenge. According to the method, a multi-round zero-knowledge algorithm is used for authenticating the processing device. Execution of respective rounds of the zero-knowledge algorithm is time-sequentially intermixed with content conversion of sequential parts of the digital content.

    • A content distribution system (300) has access control according to a predefined data access format. The system has organizations (32) for providing content data and related meta data on record carriers (34), and a rendering device (39), and applications for manipulating the content data and related meta data. An access policy for the organization is set according to the predefined data access format, and has access parameters for controlling access to resources of the rendering device and to said content data and related meta data. An organization application (35) complying with the access policy of the organization for accessing said data is executed while accessing the resources of the rendering device according to the access policy of the organization. According to the invention a user access policy is maintained that restricts, for the organization application, access to the resources of the rendering device relative to the access policy of the organization. The user access policy is adjusted based on additional trust data for selectively allowing the organization application to access the resources according to the access policy of the organization. Hence the user controls the access that applications have to resources of the rendering device.

    • The invention relates to a watermark embedding method and to transcoding and digital recording apparatus including a facility for watermark embedding. A first embodiment incorporates a watermark embedding system with a cascaded decoder/encoder transcoder of the type commonly found in digital recording apparatuses. An input data stream in a first format is received by a decoder (10) of the transcoder. Coding parameters are fed from a first output of the decoder (10) to a first input of an encoder (30) of the transcoder. A second output of the decoder (10) comprises a baseband video signal which is passed to a first input of an adder (24). An output of a watermark generator (22) is fed to a second input of the adder (24). An output of the adder (24) is fed to a second input of the encoder 30. The output of the encoder (30) comprises the information to be recorded in a second format which is compatible with a storage medium.
