    • PURPOSE:To obtain a stroke sensor which can be manufactured without consuming much labor and time and can highly accurately and highly sensibly make detection. CONSTITUTION:Signal sections 3 are formed at regular intervals in the axial direction around the outer periphery of a nonmagnetic rod member 1 and each signal section 3 is formed by plating an Fe layer in a groove cut into the member 1 to a fixed depth. When the signal sections 3 pass through detection coils 4A and 4B, the impedances of the coils 4A and 4B periodically change and the moving amount of the member 1 is detected from the periodical changes of the impedances. Since the signal sections 3 are formed by plating, the need of a welding process and another process for removing the thermal stress produced at the time of welding can be eliminated and, at the same time, the sections 3 can be formed with high accuracy. In addition, since the permeability variation is large, the moving amount of the member 1 can be detected with high sensitivity. Since the signal sections 3 can be formed on the surface of the rod member 1 in a solid and compact texture, the sliding characteristic of the rod member 1 is not deteriorated.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain magnetic scale material of excellent durability and high detecting accuracy with a boundary between a non-magnetic part and a magnetic part clearly being distinguished by forming recessed parts on the surface of the graduation formation predetermined part of a high Mn non-magnetic steel base material by machining, and coating the inside of the recessed parts with a magnetic material by plating. CONSTITUTION:The non-magnetic part of round bar raw material 1 made of high Mn non-magnetic steel is clearly partitioned from each magnetic part formed of a pure plated layer 3 in a groove 2 by the side walls of the grooves 2. Recessed parts each having the specified shape and depth are previously formed on the surface of the raw material 1 by machining, and inside each recessed part the material 1 is coated by plating or the like. The whole surface is then finished by machining to form a magnetic scale material. At the time of detecting this magnetic scale material by a magnetic sensor or the like, the non-magnetic part and the magnetic part are detected in the state of being clearly divided by the recessed part as a boundary so as to obtain the magnetic scale material of excellent responsiveness and high detecting accuracy.
