    • PURPOSE:To improve the yield of material and reduce the number of processes by thickening the back edge of the prototype of sickle by pressing, and making the back edge part thicker than that of steel plate used for the edged tool by thickening it uniformly. CONSTITUTION:A prototype 5 of a sickle is made by blanking a steel plate for cutlery in the first process. The back edge 7 of the blade 6 of the prototype 5 is thickened by pressing in the second process. In the third process, the blade 6 of the prototype 5 is bent to chevron-shaped section by press forming narrowing the width longitudinally and with the back edge facing the front, and the back edge 7 is thickened uniformly. In the fourth process, an edging is performed to the cutting part 8 in the blade of the prototype 5.

    • PURPOSE:To grind a sickle stock automatically in conformity with the special curve of the cutting edge of the sickle by a method wherein the sickle stock is ground while oscillating it, and the radius of oscillation is changed during oscillation. CONSTITUTION:The first oscillating plate 4 is provided on a base 1 in such a manner as to be oscillatable around a pivot shaft 5, and the second oscillating plate 8 is provided thereon in such a manner as to be oscillatable around a pivot shaft 9. The sickle stock A is fitted in a recess 10, and is ground by a grinding belt while being oscillated. The second oscillating plate 8 is oscillated by a hydraulic cylinder 15 through a connecting arm 14, the oscillation being conducted with the shaft 9 as a center and with a radius r1, whereby the cutting blade near the base of the stickle stock A is ground. When the second oscillating plate 8 comes into contact with a pin 13, the plate 8 is coupled with the first oscillating plate 4 as one body, and the body is oscillated around the shaft 5 with a radius r2 to perform grinding in conformity with the radius of curvature of the cutting edge part. Accordingly, the sickle stock A can be automatically ground in conformity to the special curve of the cutting blade thereof.

    • PURPOSE:To have an automatic grinding of a workpiece for sickle by forming the standard curve, to be produced in the surface on the sickle's major part, with two circular arcs with different radii, bound continuously and by using two swing units, arranged in combination, with different swinging radii in compliance with said two different circular arcs. CONSTITUTION:On the foundation 1, No.1 swing unit 4 is installed in such a manner as capable to swing with a shaft 16 as the center, over which No.2 swing unit 5 is installed in such a way as capable of swinging with another shaft 15 as the center. A workpiece for a sickle A is mounted in a recess 6 provided at No.2 swing unit 5 and ground by an abrasive belt. At the time of grinding, No.2 swing unit 5 swings with a radius of r1 driven by a hydraulic cylinder 9 through a connecting rod 8 to grind the base part of the sickle and, when No.2 swing unit 5 contacts a pin 14, the No.1 and No.2 are consolidated and swung with a radius of r2 to grind till the foremost of the sickle with a quickened operating speed of the hydraulic cylinder and with the circumferential speed in swinging being held constant.
