    • A floating conveyor system includes a number of serially interconnected conveyor units for transferring sand, gravel and other material from a floating dredge to a land based station for processing. Each conveyor unit is supported by pontoons or floats over substantially the entire length of the unit. Furthermore, the individual conveyor units are joined by a unique coupling system which provides a universal-type cardan joint to permit movement of the respective units without capsizing or disconnecting. As a result, the floating conveyor system provides a more stable transfer, offers a safer catwalk for personnel passage, and can be easily lengthened or shortened by adding or subtracting additional conveyor units without pulling the entire system ashore.

    • A water based dredge includes a grizzly with a sieve and a pair of bi-directional rakes. The rakes translate relative to the stationary sieve to slide waste or recoverable material off of the grid and onto a refuse barge or material processing apparatus, respectively. A grab deposits dredge material onto the sieve and an operator determines whether the material includes waste such as clay or the like or recoverable material such as rocks, dirt, or sand. If the operator determines that the dredge material is waste, the rakes will be actuated for movement from a first direction to thereby push the waste off of the grizzly and onto a refuse barge. If the operator determines that the dredge material includes recoverable material, the rakes will be operated in a second direction so the recoverable material is slid from the grizzly and into a crusher or other appropriate processing apparatus.

    • A floating grab dredge has first and second pontoons spaced apart sufficiently to define a work space therebetween. The work space is large enough to define a barge slip therein as well as a digging well adjacent to the barge slip. A gantry mounted on the pontoons by supports spans the work space. Material handling apparatus on one of the pontoons includes a grizzly for separating waste from recoverable material. The gantry includes tracks on which a trolley shuttles among positions above the digging well, barge slip and grizzly. When a load of dredged material is brought up from the digging well it is inspected to determine if it contains recoverable material. If it does the trolley is moved above the grizzly and the load is dumped on the grizzly. If no recoverable material is in the load, it is dumped into a barge in the barge slip and digging continues.

    • A dredge includes a primary grizzly with a sieve for separating dredged material initially into recoverable and discharge portions. A second or auxiliary grizzly and sieve are also provided on a chute extending from the primary grizzly to further remove remaining recoverable material from the portion of material discharged from the primary grizzly. A gate is provided for selectively opening and closing access to the auxiliary grizzly depending upon the make-up of the material discharged from the top of the primary grizzly. The combination of the primary and auxiliary grizzly provide for increased efficiency and effectiveness in recovering a larger percentage of recoverable material from a water-based dredging operation.
