    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an NOx sensor which directly decomposes NOx with high selectivity to detect the NOx and is excellent in durability even under high oxygen concentration.SOLUTION: A gas sensor includes an electrochemical cell having the following elements; (a) a solid electrolyte; (b) a first electrode which contains a nitrogen oxide decomposition catalyst phase mainly composed of a perovskite type oxide to be represented as ABO, and is exposed to gas to be detected; and (c) a second electrode which is faced to the first electrode via the solid electrolyte and arranged to be blocked with the gas to be detected. The first electrode is constituted so as to contain the nitrogen oxide decomposition catalyst phase mainly composed of the perovskite type oxide in which A is two or more kinds of elements to be selected from a rare earth element, an alkali earth metal element and an alkali metal element, respectively, and B represents one or two or more kinds to be selected by at least containing Al from a group consisting of Al, Ni, Fe, Co, Mn, Cr, Cu, Rh and V.
