    • A display device comprising a number of light emitting diodes disposed in a matrix array, a switching element being connected in series with each of the horizontal (row) and the vertical (column) scanning lines; said array being scanned in such a manner that the column lines are scanned with a pulse consisting of a negative part and a subsequent positive part while the row lines which are always biased with a negative voltage of a value smaller than that of the said negative part of the column scanning pulse are scanned with a negative pulse of a value larger than that of the said negative part of the column scanning pulse, a trigger pulse being applied to the gate electrode of the switching elements in synchronization with the column scanning pulse for a column which includes a light emitting diode to be energized, thus a light emitting diode which has been transferred to a conductive state being returned to the non-conductive state by the negative part of the column scanning pulse just before the relevant column is scanned for the second time, a bright display being thereby ensured.

    • A photodetector with an array of a plurality of picture element units, each of which is formed by a series circuit of a photoconductor layer and a diode or of a combination of a photodiode and a diode which is connected in series with the photodiode in oppositely rectifying direction, the plurality of picture element units being divided into at least two groups and the picture element units of the respective groups being connected to a corresponding first conductor group which is allocated to the groups whereas the picture element units belonging to the different groups, which are arranged at identical positions relative to one another in the different groups, are together connected to a respective second group of conductors, with a first bias control element for applying a voltage to the first group of conductors which is connected to the picture element from which a signal is to be read out, the voltage being used for biasing the diode of the picture element to be read out in the forward direction whereas no bias voltage is applied in the forward direction to the first group of conductors which are connected to the picture element units from which no signals are to be read out; and with a second bias control element which is provided for one of the second conductor groups which is connected to the picture element unit to be read out, for earthing or biasing the diode of the picture element to be read out in the forward direction by means of a capacitor, as a result of which the stored electrical charges are sequentially read out as signals at nodes which are located between the photoconductor layers and the diodes or between the photodiodes and the diodes.
