    • PURPOSE:To restrain and uniformize melting depth in the horizontal direction of a steel ingot by shifting the flow passage of DC current during remelting in a complex steel ingot producing method by a DC electroslag remelting. CONSTITUTION:A surface plate 5 is rotated so as not to rotate an electrode 12 for current-collecting fitted to the surface plate, and a consumable electrode 11 is concentrically inserted into the inner part of a cylindrical steel ingot case 10 laid on the surface plate 5 to start the electroslag remelting. The consumable electrode 11 becomes the molten metal and rotating flow in the circular peripheral direction is developed therein by electromagnetic field generated between the consumable electrode 11 and the surface plate 5, and the molten metal bath 17 becomes a solidified metal 18 to fill the cavity in the inner part of the steel ingot 10. At this time, the flow passage of the DC current flowed into the electrode 12 is shifted to the circular peripheral direction of the steel ingot 10. Shifting of this current flow passage is executed while rotating the steel ingot 10 in the reverse direction to the rotating direction of the slag bath 16 and the molten metal bath 17. By this method, heat transmission quantity to the steel ingot 10 is reduced and the melting depth is reduced and the melting in the horizontal direction of the steel ingot is uniformized.

    • PURPOSE:To allow a composite roll to combine high thermal shock cracking resistance with high wear resistance by constituting the composite roll of a core material made of low alloy steel having a specific hardness lower than that of outer layer material and an outer layer material made of high alloy steel in which hardness, structure, and residual stress are specified, respectively. CONSTITUTION:This composite roll is constituted of a core material made of low alloy steel having a hardness of >=35 Shore hardness and lower than the hardness of outer layer material and an outer layer material made of high alloy steel having a martensitic structure of >=80 Shore hardness and =70kg/mm residual stress at the outermost surface. In order to produce this roll, progressive hardening in which, while applying progressive heating to the outer layer material alone up to a temp. not lower than the austenite transformation point, a liquid refrigerant is sprayed on the heated part is performed. Then, high-temp. tempering treatment in which the amount of retained austenite phase in the outer layer material is regulated to =300 deg.C is made possible even if the surface hardness is regulated to a value equal to that of the conventional roll, resistance to thermal shock can be improved while maintaining wear resistance equal to that of the conventional roll.

    • PURPOSE:To manufacture a composite sleeve for a rolling roll having high joining strength, wear resistance, spalling resistance by performing constrained forging by properly taper heating a thermally sprayed layer after high alloy powders are thermally sprayed onto the peripheral surface of a highly strong and tough cylinder. CONSTITUTION:The peripheral surface of a highly strong and tough cylinder 6 is thermally sprayed with high alloy powders having wear and spalling resistances, higher deformation resistance and elastic modules than those of the cylinder 6 material to form a thermal spray layer 5. An optimal thickness ratio D1/D2 between a thickness D1 of the layer 5 and a thickness D2 of the cylinder 6 is 0.25-1.5. Then the layer 5 and the periphery of the cylinder 6 are heated to a temp. suitable for constrained forging and other parts are subjected to taper heating along a temp. distribution curve 4 and constrained forging is performed. By this, elastic deformation of the cylinder 6 is prevented and only the layer 5 is effectively forged. A sleeve having uniform and fine structures, small residual stresses, high joining strength of a boundary layer, hardly generated cracks or peelings, reutilizable arbor, and spalling and wear resistances is obtained by performing a prescribed machining to the forged stock.

    • PURPOSE:To improve a shaft strength as well as a wear resistance and spall resistance by increasing the relative volume density ratio of the following thermal spray layer in the composite roll forming a thermal spray layer on the circumference of the shell part of a steel made core stock of high strength and high stiffness. CONSTITUTION:A composite roll blank is formed by providing a thick thermal spray layer 3 with the plasma thermal spray of the powder having a big deformation resistance on the circumference of the shell part 2 of the core stock 1 of the roll for rolling having high strength and high stiffness. This composite roll blank is then subjected to hot treatment by making the thermal spray layer 3 in the range of forging temp. after subjecting to a diffusion heat treatment, if necessary, for reinforcing the joining force of the core stock 1 and thermal spray layer 3 and heating it in the state of the temp. distribution 3 keeping down the temp. at the center of the core stock 1. With this hot treatment, the thermal spray layer 3 is preferentially forged more than the core stock 1 and even after machining the composite roll of good roughness is obtd.
